10-22 with red dot style sights..looking for input

Been looking at getting one but I dont want anything too bulky....basically just for quick shots on ditch chickens and rabbits.
The cover can be pretty thick and these critters can really move once spotted...can ya give me some thoughts and ideas from firsthand users on the good and the bad..pics would be awesome too
 
I had a strikefire but sold it, the TRS-25 is a far better deal. They can be had for $110 to $140, have better glass than the strikefire, more brightness adjustment and a smaller, crisper dot all in a tiny lightweight little package. Batteries are waaay cheaper. The CR2 batteries in the strikefire cost me $40 at Walmart. I got 20 CR2032 batteries for the TRS-25 off ebay for 5 bucks. You just cant beat it, not without spending a lot more. As for an RDS on a 10/22 for a truck gun, does it get any better? I cant think of a setup Id rather have for hunting small game at short range. Just dont cheap out and buy a really cheap red dot. Ive heard good reviews about the tasco red dots but have no experience. Anything NC star, leapers, AIM, blah blah blah is made in China junk, period. Buy once cry once. The TRS-25 is my go-to RDS so it gets my vote.
 
i bought a Vortex Sparc and love it.. finally sold it to get a scope instead cause im that kind of guy. If i had to start all over again, i would try the TRS-25 too

I agree on this statement. I have an NC Star on my .22, thing is junk. Then again, I paid 30 bucks off ebay and 50-70 of rounds trying to zero the thing. The dot isnt very clear and is quite large.

Im going with a vortex for the next red dot purchase.
 
I don't know about red dots. Love the idea, but all but the best ones seem to have "dots" so large that you can't see a pop can 40' away. Cheap ones also have really green lenses which are dark/distracting too. Ask me how I know. :)

I favor open sights, or compact/lower-magnification scopes myself~more versatile. I'm tempted to look at the Bushnell TRS-25 because I've heard good things about them...just don't know what I'd use it for.
 
Probably not an option for most, but I had an aimpoint T1 on mine for a while and it worked great. I used it to hit gophers out to 50m easily.

And I will answer it before it is asked. I had a T1 on it becasue I won it in a contest and that is where it lived until I got my 858.

I bought a Tasco one from Canadian Tire and was (and am) very impressed with it. Seems well built (aluminum, no plastic), holds its zero well, brightness adjustment works for all the lighting conditions I've been able to throw at it, the dot is sharp & slightly smaller than a golf ball at 50 meters (I can still see the edges of the golf ball at that range - until I pull the trigger, when the golf ball disappears). Plus, they're around the $50 mark. So far, I haven't seen the need for anything more pricey.

I had a 4x ncstar with illuminated crosshairs on my 10/22 for a while. It worked fine, held zero fine and was easy to sight in. Then I went to an 18x scope and enjoyed it for a bit. I just bought a true glow red dot from dicks (us) for $99. It's like a burris fast fire in its design. Small and light but seems very sturdy. Has 4 different reticles, 2 illumination colors and 6 brightness settings for each. Took me 10 rounds to get it sighted in, that was 1000 rounds ago and it still shoots 3 inch groups at 50 yards from a standing position and better off my bipod. For the money, I'm very impressed. I wouldn't mount it on my VZ58... But for my 10/22 it's perfect.

I have two of these work well for the price, might put one of them on my new ruger 10/22
 
I just got a tasco red dot that i am going to put on an SKS with a scout scope mount. I can't comment on how it holds up long term, but it seems alot more well made and solid then the ncstar red dot a friend has

+1 for the TRS-25

I have 2 of them, 1 on my 10/22 and the other on my slug gun for deer. The things are solid and amazing for the money.
I have no complaints what so ever with the thing. Don't cheap out and buy a low quality one. When it comes to optics its better to spend a little more. Got both of my for around $120 each and would buy another if I got an additional 10/22.
 
I cheaped out and purchased a Redhead Pursuit 1x red dot from Bass Pro. It has a 3 moa dot which is pretty good for the $80 I paid. The lens covers it came with have already broken but the scope itself seems pretty solid and I'm impressed with the way it functions so far for the price. I've had it out to the range a couple of times and its a blast.

I've got the Sparc myself, and love it for a RDS. Not to mention the warranty you get with it, can't pass that up. As the saying goes around here, "buy once, cry once."
