I recently purchased this Remington Rand 1911A1. The serial number (2,218,###) range places it DOB to 1945. A couple of questions that I have are: It seems to me that the front sight post is a bit too tall, could this have been altered? The pistol has obviously been blued based on the pictures. Could this be the original factory bluing or a refurb down the road maybe for Vietnam? Everything else seems to be original except for maybe the trigger?

Any insight, opinions, comments or possible history would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Your pics are a bit of a liability in terms of determining originality, etc.

From what I can see: Sites are not original, finish is not original [reblue at some point], trigger may be an early WWII Colt mfg milled trigger [for a 1945 mfg Rem Rand it should be a stamped trigger], hammer is not correct for a 1945 Rem Rand, it should have flat sides [trigger looks like an early WWII Colt mfg trigger with wide spur].

You've got a good "shooter grade" 1911A1 there with USGI markings, for the most part, still intact.

Here's an original finish 1944 mfg Remington Rand:

[Note finish, original sites, stamped trigger and flat sided hammer]:
