Best paint to use to paint your rifle?

KRYLON x 10..............Its dirt cheap, has a nice matt finish and is pretty durable.
Make sure your surfaces are oil free and clean, grab some cans and go into the shed for a couple of hours and play around.
If you #### it up, call it a base coat and do er again......

Dont think about it too hard ...........shake em up and give er :)

x 2 on the Krylon Camo ....A few coats of clear satain or matt after will protect it....I had to use satain as thats all I could find but scuffed it a bit with steel wool after to dull the finish .

Go Krylon spray the big areas and do the details you want with a brush or cut outs ...........mine is 6 months old and holding up just fine

I would also go with Krylon, durable and fast dry. I have done one crossbow, limbs were just recently replaced so still need to be painted and also my 12 gauge single, barrel, reciever painted stained stocks and sprinkled with sand for a good grip. Will try to get pics up

Hey I was curious as to what is the best paint to use to paint a rifle?
How to paint one?

There are two products that are highly recommended by the manufacturers and users alike. One is Dura-Coat and the other is Arma-Coat. Duracoat is difficult to find in Canada but I know of one place to get it - QuarterMaster Paintball Supplies on Facebook. Arma-Coat is manufactured in Canada and is easy to get. They are both two part epoxy type paint (paint and hardener). They are supposed to give you an extremely strong bond to the rifle. I personally have bought the Arma-Coat.

I am in the process of getting my parts aluminum oxide blasted to give a strong bond to the metal (per manufacturer instructions). If your rifle is parkerized it is ready to paint after the cleaner/degreaser. I made the mistake of using sandpaper so I am going to do it properly. If you go on youtube you will see dozens of videos using Dura-coat. You can harden the parts quickly in an oven or in a small room with a space heater. Once hardened the bond should be permanent.

Ill give it a try. I just have the rifle out of the box norinco m14 so I dont think it is
parkerized or oxidized or whatever word im looking for here.
Im also wondering how to people paint such good patterns so well with no run off or stray spray?
like in moose2hunts pic he posted.

What do you mean by that? Just the stock in the dishwasher right? Cause i have seen pics of rusted rifles after a dishwasher?
WHats the purpose of the dishwasher to clean the stock off for painting?

I used a can of "dark taupe" Rustoleum ($3 at Liquidation World) as the base coat for an upcoming camo job. Takes a lot longer than Krylon to dry, but it's more durable.

I was also wondering its it ok to paint the parts of my rifle that are a grey black. ( barrel receiver etc)

I had those same questions about the Arma-coat. They assure me I can paint ALL parts of the rifle but use a thin coat on moving parts. This company sells rifles already coated in Arma-coat and they will answer all your questions over email or phone. I have no idea about the dishwasher. If the rifle is new the grey parts should be parkerized. It is sort of a rough finish which is good for the paint to adhere. I am painting my M14 matte black as I did not like the look of the grey parts along side the Blackfeather stock.

The dishwasher comment is a joke. Someone put their firearm (M305 I believe) in the dishwasher to wash off the packing grease and ROYALLY F*CKED UP the whole firearm. Posted on here a while back.

lots of light coats from as far away as you can from the item your spraying to get the patern your going for ...go slow and watch the runs, dont over do it, the black was painted by hand ,paint sprayed in to a lid and then brushed on ,that coverd the border/edges i did not like , ...a real hot day helps too....

I started with a full coat of brown ..then used cardboard cut outs to spray the green ...then brush to do the black

and if you dont like what you get for a finish ....wash it off and try again .....its just paint
