Any opinions pro or con on using tactical thigh rigs ? Just wondering if it's a piece of equipment that would be useful for IPSC and such.

Not legal for IPSC
Generally I find them a PITA. Any kind of belt holster will be more useful, unless you don't have any real estate left on the belt or you are wearing body armor or vest that gets in the way.

Personally, id think the only reason one would be necessary is if a belt rig is impractical for your application. IE: you ride in a lot of vehicles with your handgun or you have too much gear strapped around your torso.

Thigh holsters have their place in the tactical world, where your body Armour rig is to wide to clear a belt holster... Or your issued one. However I've seen them worn improperly, too low. I modified mine to ride high by removing the top strap and having the second strap closer to the junk.
However this can all be mitigated with low ride offset belt mounted holsters now adays...especially when you have low profile carriers Available.

Do not buy Blackhawk. Safariland is the way to go.

Yeah... They flop around too much.

I have used them in the past... 'Found that wilst runnin' an' gunnin' I'd get my rear sight banged up and if going prone my pistol usually ended up covered in mud.
That said... If you really want one, I have one for a 1911 that I'd be glad to give ya for $35 shipped.

You can then find out for yourself...
