Dirty Dozen Alert! Starts in 2 minutes!!

TCM just had the movie on called 5 graves to Cairo (1943) B&W. About Rommel and the Desert war. I still held my $275 M1 Garand and $169 K98, one in each hand!

I don't think they did get along in the movie. Rommel said in the movie you can never depend on the Italians for anything, or something to that effect.

In their defence :yingyang: , I'm pretty sure he could count on the Italians to recall the Battle of Caporetto  , where the Germans "turned-around" and decimated the Italian 2nd Army...

Churchill said it was only fair that Italy joined the Axis for WW2, since we were stuck with them for WW1.

Anyway, my favorite part of the show was the old MX footage in the little "making of" film they showed before the movie. "Lee Marvin is an action guy". LOL

When the untried US Army suffered several initial reversals, incl some large scale surrenders, at the hands of the Germans in North Africa this caused some of the Brits to condescendingly refer to the Americans as "our Italians". Quite a bit of unwarranted pomposity there as the British Army spent the first part of the war getting their a$$es waxed regularly by the Germans, to say nothing of their humiliating defeats by the Japanese in Hong Kong, Malaya and Burma.
