AR15/AR10/Black Rifle List (25-Dec Update)

The hand guards actually come in pretty standard for weight, even the new Giessele one is actually the same weight.....You might want rename it the "CONSUMERS TIER RANKING SYSTEM" then....lol.

I thought that was a given? Not sure what the point would be having a tier/guide system for rifles that we can never own...

I concur with Leibermuster, there needs to be a tier above tier 1 or you have to better define how you are ranking these… You should have tiers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4.

OK, fair enough - I think I see what you're both getting at. Will make a few adjustments... I moved H&K and KAC into "Tier 0", I left all the others in "Tier 1" and added LMT to "Tier 1" as well (for their MRP setup).

..

Correct me if you I'm wrong but wasn't the whole Tier system based on real world users and how to rank the best AR or Assault rifles in the world if I remember correctly and if Civies went of that list that was entirely up to them?

Well, a lot of the US stuff isn't going to be applicable here - just because we don't have FA or suppression.

I liked the old days when everyone was told that there was an A-B-C guide to go by. Too complicated and too many choices !

To be sure. On the flip side, design and advancements have come such a long way that a lot of the advantages are now really minor. While there's probably less to distinguish one particular AR from another, it also means you're going to see fewer variations in overall performance.

Did you want to specify "LMT (MRP)" in that case? Helps to edjamacate newbs like me too since I'll now fire up the search engine to figure out what makes a MRP "better". :)

I wouldn’t suggest it, as if you start it with LMT you will have to start doing it with everyone, some companies have different tiers of rifles with in themselves. I think it would be better to base the company as a whole…

Anyhow... I don’t believe the MRP is really in a tier on its own compared to other LMTs… for the LMT MRP the real difference is in the barrel… it has an integrated quad rail and a proprietary quick change barrel system… the barrels tend to be of a high quality though… I assume innovation and accuracy tipped the bar on this one…

I get what you're saying, but blaxsun has already listed "LMT" twice. If this were to stand, adding (MRP) for LMT's tier 1 position would explain the difference. As for the contents of the list, I personally don't mind seeing some firms in there a couple times if they have some outstanding features in a few rifles that do set them apart. Mind you, that might be because I'm in "shopping" mode. :)

Problem fixed - I'll just leave it in Tier 2. :D

Have you actually fired a Core15? or even handled one?
The fit and finish is SAME as the Windham Weaponry one I saw.
And as for shooting.....like any other AR15.

I would not put Core15 in the same tier as Norc and NEA...

When I say "I've seen two" - it means across my work bench. Not "fondled in someone else's store". YMMV. Hence the whole subjectivity thing.

As a whole LMT has an excellent reputation for quality rifles. They are only missing a few minor specs in the "chart" and are in the top listed. As for the MRP, it should be another level up. The lower is quality and includes a Sopmod stock and ergo grip. The upper includes the monolithic rail, quick change barrel system with Mike Rock barrels and the gas port is on an angle to avoid erosion. Also the gas tube is straight with no bends. It's up there with the likes of KAC, Noveske etc. In the states a number of people have Karl Stoner rifles. IE the ambi KAC lower with the MRP upper and a SS Mike Rock barrel. The MRP are noticeably top quality AR15 rifles.

The AR10 ratings. I would rate the Armalite above DPMS in a heartbeat. Frankly it's only been in the last 5 years or so that the KAC has gone up another level. The Canadians were using Armalites in Afghanistan with good results. If there was a "milspec" for the AR10 the Armalite would be it. The newest LMT and KAC rifles exceed those specs. I would place them as High end. In reality though it wouldn't surprise me if the plain Armalite could hold it's own against any of these other rifles. Both in accuracy and taking punishment.

Colt is Tier-1 in for the AR15, and Armalite is Tier-1 in the AR10. What am I missing here?

Well... Considering that when I posted that colt was tier 0 and you had placed Armalite as tier two....I'd say you aren't missing anything....but "covering" a ####load. Look at the time stamps between
my post and your edit....

Wants at is it with you and all these "x compared to x" threads anyway? It seems to be a regular thing....

Agreed... you do seem to like the LMTs ;)

which one of these will allow me to shoot a bear in space with my slidefire stock?

The DD... does yours not do that?

Ya really figure the Amateurs Combat Rifle belongs above proven designs and third only to rifles that aren't available? - I'd put it right up there with the other non-combat, combat rifle that no .gov will take a chance on.
