AR15/AR10/Black Rifle List (25-Dec Update)

Well... Considering that when I posted that colt was tier 0 and you had placed Armalite as tier two....I'd say you aren't missing anything....but "covering" a ####load. Look at the time stamps between my post and your edit....

The server was repeatedly going offline due to high load, so it's possible one or more saves didn't take.

Ya really figure the Amateurs Combat Rifle belongs above proven designs and third only to rifles that aren't available? - I'd put it right up there with the other non-combat, combat rifle that no .gov will take a chance on.

Amateurs Combat Rifle, that's good. ;) (it is being field by some units, though)

One thing we CAN agree on though is that CF and US Gov contractors are all tier 1 as they build to the M16 TDP - no exceptions. In this category you missed FN.

So you are saying that the TDP is the be all end all of what the pinnacle of performance is? My understanding was that the TDP outlined the minimum/benchmark that rifles and parts had to meet in order to be eligible for supply to the military?. Can't there be an argument made that modern manufacturing techniques or new materials, metal treatments or etc could allow an AR to exceed those standards performance wise?

As for this tier ranking scheme, I see some really bizarre rankings. Blaxsun what is the criteria to be a tier 0/1/2/3 and etc? Is it based on performance? features? manufacturing standards? materials?

Just wondering.

MP7 used by Seal Team 6, if there is anything really better they would use something else...Just saying...Actually the whole which PDW is king is an interesting debate I'm not convinced on which is best, so many calibers and different purposes for so many PDW sized Sub machine guns and so many other categories you can through in there too.....

You could add new names life Sub compact rifle or PDAW they fit so many niches with different calibers now....I mean really the US military calls a pistol a PDW and all the pistol is in my mind is the modern day bayonet...

Heh, thanks for the morning chuckle. Stick around, eventually they will get to the accessories (i.e. purses, shoes, etc). :pirate:

Blaxsun need to go back to building PDW's, I love him as much as two strangers on an internet forum share a common interest can without getting creepy, heck I even enjoyed some of his Loctite schtick, but I think he has "jumped the shark" on these type of threads ;)

I think you were bang on when you made the point that the benefits of these rifles for the use of the military elite are often lost in translation to the civvie market IE no supression or full auto you don't get the benefits of the MP7. Essentially the MP7 for civilian use would be a really ####ty handgun. I would take a TP9 over a MP7 if they were both available on the civilian market and equally priced because I wouldn't have the benefit of the AP rounds, nor the high rate of controllable automatic fire at low decibels. That argument can be made for a few guns to though. Do we see a benefit to the Tavors with no auto? the PS90 with a 5 round magazine and no full auto? Sure they are still nice, fantastic pieces of equipment, but everything that really makes them special has been neutered. We are being co*kblocked by our government to fully enjoy these firearms.

LOL

I know you have a personal "love-hate" relationship with the Robinson XCR family but based on your criteria, it should probably be included with the Tier 2 group. Otherwise, I think your list is almost accurate.

I think weather it is unobtainable or not, we should put them in there anyways, some larue stuff and few rifles have made it up here.

Im looking at buying my first evil Black Rifle / AR15 this Autumn (since I didn't win the Tavor from the Med. Hat raffle! :) ) and I find this thread and related discussion (points and counter points) useful thank you Blaxsun et al!

Also, when did the beretta become the god of non-AR combat rifles?

I was also wondering why the ARX-160 was on it's own in Tier 0. Are the reviews on this rifle so amazing that it's being pushed into military service around the world as we speak? I would suggest that the ACR-160 move to Tier 1 until more is known. Black Rifles probably doesn't need a tier 0 at this time.

PS90, FS2000 and Tavor are Tier 2????

How so?

PS90 is used by several elite units (JTF2 included) world wide, as well as regular forces and police. It is definitely the pinnacle of quality and performance from a SMG.

Tavor should be above the ACR considering it is actually combat proven, same with MP7 and FS2000.

This system has me confused, what was the "black rifle" tiering based on???? MSRP?

Also G36 still has some unmatched performance and is used by KSK and other spec ops units around the world...can't really say the latest versions are not Tier 1 ...More criteria is still needed to be able to determine what makes a gun qualify for each Tier category.
