Who makes a dovetail to weaver adaptor for the '94? See photos...

Here is a mock-up, the weaver rail is longer so I can attach it to the forearm. Ideally it would only be about an inch long centred in the rear dovetail. Very slick IMHO if I don't say so myself... Where can I get one? Anyone with a machine shop want to make one for me??? The last photo is a bit blurry because the exposure was so long... the TRS25 really is quite a good budget red dot.

:D

Never saw anything like you mention/posted... But a red-dot might not be ideal for a mount like that.

I knocked the rear-sight out of the dovetail, butting the rail right up to the reciever.

Check out XS Sight Systems Scout Rail. If your 94 is not an Angle Eject model, you will have to get the reciever drilled and tapped. I did mine and Put a Bushnel Trophy red dot on it and it is the cats a$$ for whitey's in the thick stuff and its fun too ! ! ! I ordered mine from Brownell's.

Just thinking out loud, but what about a two piece setup.

Dovetail separate from the rail, dovetail is D&T and the rail concave so you can tighten the rail to the dovetail and everything is held in place nice and tight?

Even better, remove the upper portion of the dovetail blank and use a curved bottom rail to pull the blank up into the dovetail slot while pulling the rail into the barrel. Use some epoxy to bed the rail and off you go. You could even cut up the old rear sight and use that.

Like this ? The blank that goes in the dovetail is drilled & tapped, and the rail secures to it ?

Well I tried a prototype today. I built one out of a flat base weaver ring base. I used a drill press, end-mill, calipers and a dremmel. i put a set screw in the dovetail portion. The hardest part was actually removing the old rear sight, i ended up having to cut a relief cut in the old sight to drift it out. It's in there really snug though I would still like to find a steel one. Aluminum seems too soft.

well i tried test firing today. Epic fail. would not group, couldn't make adjustments reliably. I don't know whats's up... It was also my first time out with the red dot, I hope it's not defective. I have another dot to try but it should have two mounting points... I was getting better groups with the open sights! Does that XS rail only attach to the receiver?

Just in case anyone is listening... Problem lies in the aluminum in the steel. As expected the dovetail made from aluminum deformed in the steel of the barrel and wobbled.

No. It has a mounting screw setup that replaces the rear sight base, as well as fine tunes the elevation of the rail, as well as the two receiver screws . IMHO the XS would be the way to go for you. Minimum of headache and John Wayne tuff. Easy to follow instructions as well. I had problems getting the gun to group as well, but found that if you use a colluminator to bore sight the red dot really well, it gets better. Remember, its not a scope, and I had trouble wrapping my wee brain around this as well , you absolutely HAVE To move the dot to the bullet hole on the target to get it sighted in with the adjustments on the sight while looking through the sight. My gun puts them all into 1 1/2- 2 inches @ 100yds now with spooky regularity. Start at 25 yards and work your way out to 100 from there.
