Buying a Glock Gen4 by the end of the month. This will be the first pistol I own personally. Was going to buy the 17, but just came across a supplier selling the 19 with legal sized barrels.

Haven't got the chance to hold a 19 yet but im sure the small reduction in size wouldn't be a terrible thing. Let me know which one you think i should get!

P.S. if you say the 19... threaded barrel or non-threaded and why?

It depends how large your hand is.

I have a 19 on its way so I can shoot 9mm for 6 cents s round (lead projectiles). If it works out, I will have to get an aftermarket barrel for my 17.

Get the G19 - it's one of the best balanced pistols out there. As far as the barrel goes, it's personal preference, after all it's only there because the laws says it has to be. The barrel does have the positive factor of allowing you to shoot lead without going OCD on the barrel cleaning.

+1 on that, the 17 and 19 feel very different in the hand due to the smaller grip of the 19. I have small hands and find the 17 feels like holding a 2x4, while the 19 feels great in my hand. I vote for the 19, but that is because I know it fits me better. OP should really handle both before buying, just to be sure he gets the one that fits best.

Sorry guys, not sure I'm comprehending what your talking about the difference in the barrels. Wouldn't the barrels be close to identical?

Weirdly, although I have small hands as well, I find that a G17 fits me better, at least while shooting. I owned a 3rd Gen G19 and it felt great in my hand but was almost uncomfortable to shoot...I couldn't quite figure out why before I sold it. I picked up a G17 RTF2 a couple of months ago (after previously owning a G17 Gen 2 and G34) and find that it feels just right.

The G19 has an after market barrel to give it a legal lenght in Canada. You would have to ask our Glock experts for the brand and exact lenght.

I know the Glock 19 comes with the "lonewolf" barrel to make it legal length for Canada. I'm assuming that is why you can shoot lead? With that being said, that implies that the stock Glock 17 barrel you can not shoot lead with. Correct?

I voted for the 17 but I'm kind of torn. I don't like the stupid a$$ extra long barrels sticking out just because of Canada's stupid a$$ gun laws, so the 17 gets the nod here.. However, since the gun control bureaucracy doesn't like the smaller 19, it gets the nod there in that buying one is bound to pi$$ off more gun control apparatchiks than the 17.

Glock 19. The stick out barrel on it isn't as bad as on the HK P2000. It's even more compact than HK P2000 and holds 2 more rounds in regular capacity magazines if you live in a free state/nation.
