been looking for a sks rear sight mount but didnt want to take the rear sight off, so i had to improvise.

first i secured the scope to the mount, then with a zip tie the scope to the rear sight to figure out how it worked. I liked the lowest setting on the rear sight, it was within an inch at 20 yards
these are the mounts I used, 2 for $9.99 see the relief on the bottom of the right mount, just had to notch it a quarter inch long 3/16 tall with a grinder.

it just about fits on top of the rear sight leaf

once I was happy about the location and orientation of the mount I marked the hole and drilled it. I wanted the holes towards the barrel, other way I didnt like the way it sat. Only had a cordless, so i went up in 3 steps, 1/16 to to end up with #28 which is one hair smaller than 3/16. I used a piece of exacto blade to keep from drilling too far and scratching the paint on the other side. The blade chipped so be careful and dont push too hard. if you can, maybe remove rear sight and use a drill press, may make drilling second hole in line easier

with hole drilled next put some threads in there, tap the hole with a #8-40 tap, special for gunsmithing, canadian tire will not carry it trust me I checked. my local gunsmith sold me one.

here you can see I had to dremel off a bit from the front pivot point area, the mount sat on the side pieces, the first rifle was painted with engine paint that was on thick, I also dremmeled it a bit to get the paint off. I did not want to grind the mount off, I wanted the most contact area to mount to

install mount with one screw, snug, mount scope or aimpoint, boresight for windage. remove scope, and mark the hole you have. Use the largest bit you have that fits in the mounting hole to start second hole where it needs to be. again drill, and tap. clean off filings, I used a bit of contact cleaner and air duster. Should look like this

the second one took me 15 minutes, not too bad. measure twice and drill once. The first scope even elevation was within an inch, the second one i did elevation was out by 3 inches but I had enough adjustments to fix

You have a $600 plus red dot and a buba rear sight mount??
But none the less brilliant idea but I think I am going to steal this idea and instead tig weld mine on.

That is my first ever rifle and since I intend to buy more firearms in the future I have a good sight to put on the next rifle. And if I do I stil have the functioning original sights (minus 2 holes) or flip rear sight up and now you have a peep sight Jk

I was working on screwing down the rear sight, no good ideas yet, would need a thin screw too hard to tap
