in other words, I've been kicked out. Why? Well here's why, at the Canadian Nationals in Brandon Manitoba I gave two friends gift certificates from Dairy Queen. Both of these individuals had been DQ'd at the match, and after talking to the girlfriend of one of them, and mentioning that it might be funny to give them such cards, to which she replied "Yeah great idea, he'd love that". Being somewhat skeptical I asked if she was sure to which she replied "yes, of course, I know him, he'll laugh". The wife of the other competitor happened to be nearby and overheard the conversation, so when I approached her, she also thought it would be funny and that her husband would appreciate it. So, on the Sunday, after the match, I hit the local Dairy Queen and got two $5 gift cards and took them with me to the dinner. At the dinner, before everyone was seated, and anything official was done, I got each the guys to come to my table where I presented them with the gift cards, pics were taken both by me and by their girlfriend and wife. I asked both of them if it was ok to put the pics on my Facebook page and was given permission by both to do so. I showed a few people the pictures after the fact and only had one negative response, everyone else had a good laugh. I knew that at previous matches, not necessarily the Nationals, that other people had done the same, sometimes making it almost a part of the match awards to do so. After the dinner we all stood around and laughed, neither individual seemed to be bothered by it, and other people came by and the gift cards were shown and some more people laughed. I'll note that no one asked to the cards, that they were shown on the initiative of the people who received them.
Once I got back to BC I didn't think of it again until I received a letter sent on September 12th advising me that I was under Probation for 2 years due to a complaint. I had never been notified of any appeal, or hearing, simply that I was now on probation, and that if I did anything that could be deemed objectionable happened again I could be kicked out. If I disagreed with the decision reached, I could let them know, otherwise I was to provide letters of apology to a host of people. Needless to say, I disagreed and had my lawyer let them know. In repsonse that we were told that they had the ability to do this based on the Official Handgun Rule book for IPSC as the match results had not been posted at the time of my "offence", and therefor the rules of the match applied. Hmm, so when was that hearing held again? Who filed the 3rd party arbitration? Hmm, if you are going to use the Red Rule book of IPSC as the reason for imposing a punishment, shouldn't you actually follow the rule book and the provisions set out in it? But apparently not, in fact, apparently you don't even need to follow any kind of rule of law, you can just do as you please as an elected board. Hmm again.
Anyhow I've got to head off to teach a class, so feel free to read the attached images.
