Hey CGN'rs,

I have a bundle of questions! I'm looking at getting into the skeet/trap shooting sports and I need help! Not to sure of the barrel of monkeys I'm opening up but here it goes.

What's the major differences between skeet and trap?
Is there a difference between a skeet and trap gun?
Which barrel length would be suitable/optimal?
What chokes?
And what would be a good beginner/budget gun to consider?

Any advice, experiences, or information would be very helpful! Thanks!
 
I strongly recommend shotgunworld.com lots of good info on skeet and trap, which are two completely different sports, by the way. Best way to learn is take a case of 7 1/1 target loads and your favorite shotgun to the range one day when they are shooting and dive in. You'll learn fast enough. Take the shotgun you own or buy a basic 870 or something like that first. Shoot a thousand rounds or so and see what you think. The thing with skeet and trap is that you will shoot more ammo in a weekend than most shotgunners shoot in a year
 
Go to your local club , most shooters will be very helpfull and many will let you try different shotguns to check how they fit you. You will learn much from talking to the better shooters. Very social group.

Might as well do this, you're gonna meet them anyway. You'll learn more in 1/2 an hour then you will in hours of surfing.
