We have just received the very first Chris Costa 1911s in Canada. These pistols are Nighthawk Custom's special models designed for Chris Costa of Magpul Dynamics and Costa Ludus -- designed by Chris Costa himself based on his experiences as an instructor of tactical classes, founder of Magpul Industries, and as a US serviceman. Costa's demands for the pistol were so rigorous that Nighthawk, whose name includes the word Custom, is not allowed to modify them from the specifications laid down by Chris when developing the gun. Chris laid down the design to produce a 1911 .45ACP pistol with the exact layout he considers ideal for a combat 1911, and it shows.

The Costa Compact features the signature Costa Slide with beveled tri-cut top angles and forward and rear serrations, flush crowned match barrel, match trigger, 10-8 Performance G10 grips, Heinie Slant Pro sights with tritium front, NHC/Marvel EVERLAST recoil system, and nearly indestructible Melonite finish. These are 4.25" barrel pistols.

We have already sold out of fullsizes in the time it has taken to write this post and we're running out of these Compact models; these are easily the most requested Nighthawks of 2012. These are the very first Costas in Canada -- we ordered these in the early Spring of 2012 and since then Nighthawk Custom has raised the price on the Costa Family of pistols. These last TWO remaining pistols will be the only Costas at this price!

45 acp is a stupid caliber anyway.. not any better then a 9 mm...

get me one of those in a 9 mill with a 10 mag cap.

Nighthawk Custom-smoothest, tightest, most accurate handgun I've shot yet. That's comparing it to a para 1911, kimber custom, ruger, and colt 1911 so far..I'm no expert but I think they are hard to beat. I've yet to play around with a Wilson Combat though and I hear they are top of the line also. I wouldn't sell my Nighthawk Custom Damascus for double the $ I paid for it! Thank you Wanstalls!

IMHO shooting my 9mm is like a shooting a pee shooter cap gun compared to my .45's When I take the handguns to the range the 9mm is the last one to see any action. It's like an after thought :)

look up any ballistic charts. The whole myth of stopping power makes no sense.

the stopping power of a 45 to 9 mm is questionable. I sold all my 45 acp guns to get a few good 9 mm.

Penetration is what really counts, and after that expansion.

9X19 NATO BALL 115gr 4.9" BL 1280 FPS 417 Ft. Lb.
9mm Luger 124gr +P D-Tap*** 1310 FPS 473 Ft. Lb.

vs 45 acp

45 ACP 185gr 5" BL 1000 FPS 411 Ft. Lb.
45 ACP 230gr +P 5" BL 950 FPS 461 Ft. Lb.

How is 45 better? If you like having a heavier gun, less ammo, more recoil, and add a few inches. get a 45.

But hey, I dont care. More 9 mm ammo for me.

Nope you're wrong, why just the other day I had a 115 gr 9mm projectile bounce right of my 25yd target. Quick thinking prevailed though, I grabbed up my .45 with 230 gr and killed that target so dead it died.

Canada dude, the only difference between 9 and .45 once it leaves the barrel is the size of the hole in the paper.

Nice gun, but out of my price range...If you keep the Costa name plate how much does the cost drop? $2,200?

Oh god, not this circular 9 vs 45 debate again, way to derail a thread...

Nice gun Wanstalls, wish I had that kind of fun money.

look up any ballistic charts.

9X19 NATO BALL 115gr = 1280 FPS / 417 Ft. Lb.
9mm Luger 124gr +P D-Tap = 1310 FPS / 473 Ft. Lb.
(4.9" BL)

vs 45 acp

45 ACP 185gr = 1000 FPS / 411 Ft. Lb.
45 ACP 230gr +P = 950 FPS / 461 Ft. Lb.

(5" BL)

I did... Your specs are a bit misleading, concerning the .45ACP.

165 gr (10.7 g) Federal Premium Low Recoil JHP = 1,060 ft/s (320 m/s) 412 ft·lbf (559 J)
185 gr (12.0 g) Bonded Defense = 1,225 ft/s (373 m/s) 616 ft·lbf (835 J)
200 gr (13 g) Speer Gold Dot JHP +P = 1,080 ft/s (330 m/s) 518 ft·lbf (702 J)
230 gr (15 g) Federal Hydra-Shok = 900 ft/s (270 m/s) 414 ft·lbf (561 J)

Test barrel length: 5 in

Check out the 185gr, ~50% more power than both your 9mm examples...

* and you lack to regard 1 major aspect concerning ballistics testing & the 9mm-45ACP "stopping power" debate... Cavitation/hydrostatic shock.

? ... I sold all my 45 acp guns to get a few good 9 mm...
