So my ATT finally came through to take my M&P out, and it's definitely fun.

The trigger seems rough with the barrel/slide attached, but it moves smoothly without it (or with it locked open).

I'm looking at getting the Apex trigger kit, but was wondering if there was any suggestions in the meantime?

Also, anyone know of issues importing the trigger kit on my own? I'll be in the States for a while and it looks to be about $70 cheaper there than here.

Thanks!

All M&P's have a gritty trigger when new. They will smooth out with use. As for importing a trigger...it's easier just to order one from Brownell's.

Smoothing out would be nice - any idea how long that takes? I went through about 200 rounds yesterday, with no noticeable change.

Brownells was the plan, but I read that it has to be under $100? If that's not a problem, I'd rather have it delivered to my door.

Brownell's has a $200 limit now I believe. I have placed two seperate orders in the recent past, both over $100 and have had no issues.

Apex triggers are a very welcome addition to an m&p. Have the alluminum trigger,USB and hard sear in mine. Trigger is very smooth and crisp now.

Did you do the install yourself? I don't mind getting my hands dirty, but I also have no experience with the innards of a handgun.

If you can manage to have it shipped to Canada. Go for the "Apex M&P Forward Set Sear & Trigger Kit".

What the AEK and AEK trigger does for the M&P the FSS does even better.

I went for the Duty Kit and RAM assist from Apex. I love the trigger upgrade, the difference is night and day. reduced take up, negated creep, made release crisp. RAM kit, not sure it was worth the $$$. 500 rounds on the factory trigger did not get it near where i wanted it, and at some point the trigger kit is cheaper than the ammo ;). ordered from bownells, installed per online video, no problem. I may look into the trigger later, if i every get good enough to convince myself it would make a difference . . . .

the RAM is supposed to make the trigger reset feel more 'positive'. while it does do that, its not a huge difference IMHO. YMMV.

I have the RAM installed for my Pro Series, it makes a tiny bit of difference but not even close to what they advertise. The RAM probably causes more wear on the trigger bar. Kind of a waste of money IMO.

Did you have to get any tools, or were you able to do it with a standard set of jeweler/computer screwdrivers?

You need a hammer, some punches and the right sized hex bit for the rear sight. Watch the APEX videos on you tube and it'll let you know what you need and how to do it.

Were you able to get the rear sight off without using a vise? Mine took some serious hammering. I bent one of my brass drifts in the process.

To the OP if you want a smooth trigger go with the Apex USB. Now you have to decide what you want in the way of a trigger pull. To maintain a +5# trigger ou can just buy the Duty Trigger return spring. To make the trigger reset quicker, and you might have the talent to take advantage of the faster reset, replace the above plus the sear with the Apex sear. If you have come this far and want a +5# trigger just buy the Apex Duty KIt. If you want a crisp 2.5# trigger buy the Apex Competition Kit. Both kits take you out of IPSC Production Division but you are still legal for IDPA SSP Division if that means anyting to you.

I have the Apex fast reset trigger complete kit in my M&P .40cal Pro. I have a 4.5# trigger and a very fast reset. I am a B/C Class shooter in IPSC and a Sharpshooter in IDPA. I have to be honest the lighter trigger pull does allow me to be more accurate when shooting out to 25 - 35 yards. I don't have the talent to take advantage of the faster reset. I am sure lots do have the talent and you might have. The Competition kit on my 9MM gun provides a sweet trigger.

Ladtly I did install the Apex RAM on my Pro. I thnk it was a waste of money myself. The M&P does not have the feel of the Glock reset. The RAM doesn't change that IMHO.

A lot depends on what you want to do with your gun. You have choices and Apex provides answers to most of them.

Take Care

ps I should add that gritty feel you get when you are dry firing the gun is due to the USB. I am not sure you would ever get rid of it just by shooting the gun. I do have a stock M&P FS .40 and when shooting IDPA with it I never notice that gritty feel. I do notice it when I dry fire at home though. Something to think about before you spend your money.
