Ruger Mini-14 .223 (loaded out with the harmonic balancer, pretty rad..)

Benelli MR1 Tactical...

Told that both are deadly accurate beyond 400 yards and will put a ton of rounds downrange in short order... and are just as capable of downing a moose as a rabbit.

I don't think I'd hunt moose with an AR-15 in the same calibre but, other people know better than me.

Both those guns look awesome, and get rave reviews from my crazy lives in the woods BC friend....

Any good?

I have to quote this one:) Wow.

Losta bait on this one
-400 yard deadly accuracy
-tons of rounds downrange
-good for moose
-AR not as good for moose

Any good?...yeap they're both good rifles.

by the AR comment I meant more that the M16 and AR are assault rifles not so much hunting tools... weapons designed to kill people are not as likely to be designed for effectively killing large game... I would deduce a heavier calibre to be a better choice, but as i said others might know better. My friend seems to think its an appropriate tool to eliminate bunnies as well as moose. Generally speaking any gun for varminting doesn't seem to me to be the right tool for big game hunting so I thought maybe he was a bit off there.

blam blam blam was his idea... 30 rounds in your nose before you get your second shot off with the bolt action as he puts it.

Mini14: Lotsa people ##### about their accuracy. Mostly the older versions. I've never owned one but want one in 6.8 cause...well...why not?

MR1: Very accurate from the reviews i've read. I don't know is they take STANAG type mags but someone will answer that one for me eventually. If they don't, then the mags are going to expensive, just like mini14 mags.

.223 for moose: What. The. F*ck. Man. Don't do it. Is it possible to kill them with it? Yes. Will it take a long time for a moose to die when shot with them? It would be a small hole in the vitals so i can only assume that yes, it will take longer. With good bullets it might be mediocre even. But i have to ask: Doesn't any animal that you're killing deserve the quickest death you can give it? If anyone answers no to this question then they're straight up f*cked and shouldn't be hunting in the first place. Take up knitting.

AR15: Is not a f*cking assault rifle. It was the platform used to develop the M16. It is a semi auto centerfire rifle just like the ones you are talking about in your OP. They are known as Modern Sporting Rifles. If you think a mini 14 or an MR1 are more accurate than a AR15, might i suggest you talk to competition shooters the world over and get their opinion. It may surprise you.

I'm not trying to be an a$$hole to you OP, and there is supposed to be no such thing as dumb questions but f*ck man, you don't make it easy on yourself around here. And if you think i'm an a$$hole, good luck. You are gonna get f*cking flamed hard on this one.

all good dude, thanks for the heads up, i see the trolls picked up the thread right after you. Nice info on the rifles and opinion on the ammo, agree with you on the moose/quick death comment.

from what you've said, I have some other comparisons to do before I firm up what I like about each. thanks!

as for the rest.. get f*cked :) Just asked an honest set of questions from a genuine lack ofn knowledge and understanding on the particular guns and uses mentioned. Not up to me if the knuckledragging gun nuts come out of the woodwork for forum trolling. Let them, I got what I needed and I'm very interested in what other intelligent people have to say about the questions themselves :)
