So - I've got a question about ordering online. A lot of the places only require the PAL number and not the card itself. My question is twofold:

1) Can I legally purchase with just my PAL number?
2) Can I store a long gun at my home before I receive my physical license?

I've been approved and my license has been issued. I have seen people bring up question number 1 and I don't believe I've seen the answer ever discussed fully.

I've tried searching the forums and have come up mostly empty.

Cheers.

That's an iffy issue. Don't recall hearing an official position on it, so proceed at your own discretion.
Personally I don't see a problem with it, as long as your PAL has been issued, and you don't go out shooting, but I'm not the one who would pressing charges.

That is the sort of impression I am getting. I am not impatient at all - I was more curious about it after reading the forums and seeing the question come up. It stands to reason though, that if the RCMP and CFC see fit to issue me a license, then they also have a way of verifying if the plastic card is in the mail. (At least that is my stand on it :D )

No - I haven't - I probably could, just haven't had the urge to.. As I said above, I am not that impatient. But I was curious about the legality surrounding doing so - and maybe addressing a question more newbs (beyond me) might have.

Reason I asked was that in someone's earlier thread, they tried to call and get their PAL number over the phone and was refused. Not sure if that is RCMP policy or if others were able to get it via phone. Your card should arrive within the week of being issued. My coworker got his card 4 business days after his status changed online to Issued.

Ahh gotcha. I think I saw that thread earlier....I mean I guess I *could* phone and try, but it was just issued today so I don't think I'd have much luck.

The official policy is that nobody at the CFC is allowed to give you your PAL# by any means, at any time. If anyone can give it to you it will be your CFO, but they have rules to follow as well.

Yah - not really worth me bothering. It'll get to me when it gets to me :)

Truthfully - I was curious WHY people needed to call in so urgently to get their license number instead of waiting the extra week. I mean - most people have already waited a chunk of time to get approved, what is another week or two.

Exactly my thoughts too... A co-worker is in the same boat as you and all I told him was to wait it out. I mean it's already been a few weeks, whats another weeks or so?

Yah - If everything I've read is right (and it has been so far) I should get it Friday or early next week. Really - I can't go shooting this weekend even if I *do* get it - I've got to be in Victoria for a tattoo appointment.
