I posted this elsewhere but I think the thread was dead, so please forgive the repetition.

I'm looking for a really nice outdoor club that does sporting clays and trap and perhaps has a couple of rifle/pistol ranges as well. Since I moved to Toronto a couple of years ago from Montreal, I don't have any friends in the GTA who are into shooting sports and have no idea about the local scene at all. In Montreal, for example, I used to spend a lot of time at a particular sporting goods store and knew about 2 clubs near the city that had beautiful clubhouses, well-maintained ranges and sporting clay courses, and most importantly a good group of people with which to share the fun.

I'd love to get referred to a reasonably close range where I could go on the weekends, meet like-minded folks, and enjoy a sport I grew up with again, now that I'm fairly settled in Toronto.

So anybody willing to be a guide and introduce me to the local scene?

If you are looking for sporting clay Galt is hard to beat. I'm not sure about their riffle and pistol range. In Barrie there is no sporting clay. They have five stand, skeet, trap, indoor for pistol calibers and 8 outdoor range from 25- 150 yard.

We are having a Toronto bar night on Saturday. We talk about guns and other things all we are from the GTA. The location is on the TTC line shoot me a PM if you have interest in joining us.

Anyone a member of both Galt/Silverdale? Is Silverdale worth the extra 30 min driving? I wanna shoot trap/skeet, rifles, handguns.

I'm in the same boat and have been doing research for sometime. Not sure you'll have any luck finding that 'gentlemenly' club you're looking for.

There are options and lots of compromises.

Perhaps there's a business opportunity here.

If sporting clays of all varieties and trap are you thing, then Hamilton Gun Club is a nice place.
But they are traditional shotgun only. No rifles, no handguns, and nothing looks "tactical". A bit of a fudd-ish atmosphere, lots of old guys, but still a friendly place and young people are coming in too.

I don't know of a single place where you will get everything you listed. Maybe Oshawa.

I don't believe Silverdale has skeet.

If you are serious about trap, I wouldn't think of Silverdale - they have two trap houses, but it's definitely not their forte.

PM me with any questions.

I may check out the Hamilton club this Sunday, if they have a guest policy. My lady friend is eager to see if the sport is for her, so I'd love for her to come along and check out what a nice club is like.

HAHA

We offer Trap, Skeet, 5 Stand, Archery, Rifle, Handgun, Action Range, Pond/ picnic area. We are also currently working on a mounted cowboy action shooting range ( first in ontario). The club sits on a beautiful piece of land 5 mins from Ancaster. Very friendly and helpful atmosphere.

Pm me for more details

I'm crossing my fingers that the weather holds. They're announcing a pretty crappy weekend, which might put a damper on my plans. I'm really eager to check out one of those Hamilton area clubs on Sunday. Seems I'm going to have to make 3 trips at some point, as there are a few near Hamilton that are nice, a couple north of the city, and a few out east.

Maybe we'll meet some of you fellow forum dwellers out there!
