If the seller says I can pick the year do I go for a later model? I watch some YouTube of the SVT-40 and it looks and sounds sweet.

Like all ww2 Russian rifles its just luck of the draw there's good ones and bad ones but if I remember correctly the later models are rarer since in 42 they stopped production in Izhevsk and slowly made less every year after that. Instead of asking for a year since that just for picky hardcore collectors just ask for a nice one with a good bore and you won't regret it.

They are tack drivers as far as iron sights go, but flippin loud. If you go hunting with it, you still need to wear ear plugs even for just one shot.

x 2 on the being loud...took mine out to the woods with a few buddies to shoot it and man did it BOOM!!! Loved it tho :)

...also learned I NEED a gas tool...as it jammed after each round, caught the brass it was trying to expel.

Gas tool and a mallet.... or 2x4. Once you have it set, its usually pretty good.

For a shooter, years doesn't matter, you want a rifle with the best possible bore. The gas system is easy to adjust, look in the sticky in this forum.

Speaking of rare SVT, i just bought 1 from a fellow member, 1945 dated:D:D:D:D:D:They stopped production of the SVT january 3 1945. I also have a 1941,a 1941 sniper and a 1944, 1944 was the last full year of production and this year less common the previous years.

I have both versions. Besides the different muzzle break, they are identical in looks, operation and reliability. Dam fun to shoot !!

Just remember that the rails for the scope mounts were removed sometime in 1942, so if you ever way to make a sniper rifle svt you'l need to take that into consideration.

I have 2, a '42 and a '43, and the '43 is the best of the two. SVT1940, would you mind posting pics of that '45, especially the year stamp, I've never seen a '45 before. Thanks.

If I purchase one, I will have the gunsmith chop off the muzzle brake (assuming that the barrel length is still legal).

I can hear the screams of protest, but they are just too loud.

Loud... Not an issue for me, my wife says I'm deaf already... He he, but seriously, I wear earplugs AND earmuffs at the range. Even the loud Boss equiped guns and others such as the SVT40, are not too loud.

Cheers
Jay

For the love of god man, if you don't want a loud 7.62x54, just buy a Mosin! Leave the purdy 'lil SVT's alone, eh?

I know. Bad Bubba. Forgive me. I have a nice Polish and an even nicer Russian M44. I would like to buy a 91/30, but I can't buy them locally. I want to inspect before purchase.
