I have been looking to purchase a Glock, but am not sure which Generation to get. I am sure that this isn't a new argument or a new thread, but I couldn't find any posts about this on this site. I would like to hear some of your personal experiences with the pro's and con's of these two Generations. I know this:

Gen 4:
-Interchangeable back strap
-Larger magazine release
-Dual recoil spring
-Rough textured frame

I have read on some forums in the states that the Glock Gen 3 is more reliable then the Gen 4, but I haven't had any experience with the Gen 4. I have owned a Glock Gen 3 in the past.

I own a g4 G21 and its the "softest" shooting .45 IMO. The g3 G21 grip felt too large but the g4 fits me without messing with the addtional straps. the factory trigger is very crisp....for a Glock:)
I'll never put enough rounds threw mine to comment on the reliability.

Theres no reason to not get the gen 4 unless you can get an amazing deal on a gen 3. For me the grips, which I switch back and forth, grip texture, and the enlarged mag release are much welcomed upgrades. And the dual recoil spring softens the recoil, I shoot a G22 and I definetly notice the difference in recoil between the gen 3 and my gen 4.

Thanks for the opinion guys, I think I'm going to hop on the Gen4 band wagon. Glocks just fit my hand best out of all the handguns out there.

I owned a Gen2 for 12 years. I liked the pistol's reliability, no frills and sturdiness but I never got used to the grip angle(pointed too high) and the slippery feeling of the smooth grip. I handled a Gen4 and really liked it. The day I get back into Glocks, it will be with a Gen4.

if you are looking for a 22 you can snag the RTF2 gen 3 new for $609 at a couple shops right now.
otherwise grab a gen 4. glock isnt going to revert to their older designs so getting aftermarket and repair parts down the road...well i ould bet its easier to get current production parts than discontinued....but thats general rule of thumb with everything...even if the pistol only has what...4 parts? lol

Own a Gen3 and have shot numerous Gen4 models and never had an issue with any of them.

Typical Glock, more of the same.......which is good. It's why most own one.

I'm loving the Gen4 grips after owning a Gen2 G17 and then selling it because I SUCK! Then I got the Gen4 and I shoot like a rock star with that small grip (leave the backstraps at home) and I'm loving it! :D

Cheers,
Barney

I've been shooting my gen4 G21 without the back straps. I always found it a little top heavy with the massive slide. Last night I installed the medium grip and to my surprise it no longer felt top heavy!
I ensured I could still reach all the controls without breaking my grip....I'm good to go. Now to test it at the range.
