Anyone seeing any? If so, care to share where (PM is fine)?

This time last year I had a dozen or so in the freezer and this year only 2 Spruce.

Bad year for them or am I just missing them?

I do not usually go walking for birds, just targets of oppurtunity while out, but I have not seen many around so far.

Not much better up north. We have had two cold wet springs which is probably a big factor. Our cycle peaked two seasons ago but this is a major crash.

No matter where you are in their cycle, cold wet springs will do them in every time. We had a dry warm spring followed by a dry hot summer here and the areas I hunt are loaded with the tasty little critters.

That really sucks, just got my hunting license, and while im waiting for a seasoned hunter to show me the ropes of field dressing deer, i went out looking for grouse and didnt see one.

Agreed, very early in the season I found a covey of eight ruffies in one juvenile group.
I also had the added benefit of knocking down some sharptails right about the same time.
Sometimes I have to work ahead of the numerous coyotes or occassional wolf pack.
The ruffies are out there in one's or two's lately.

Numbers seem to very stable up hereabouts in the Cold Lake/Bonnyville area.

Really? I haven't seen many around this year.

You guys have anti union feathers up there.
Early and late.
Not this coffee break hours stuff as around here.
Seen them as early as 8:00 a.m. and on the road at dark.
And out on the gravel in the rain too.

Very slow in my area. (Babine Lake north end). Just did four days of walking between moose hunting times with my pup and did not see one. Three seasons ago we were tripping over them so I was expecting a crash but not like this. The last two springs have been very hard on the chicks for sure. Last season was tough hunting but this year is brutal. I am going to try hunting at higher elevations and see if that is more productive. My guess: The cycle is at a low point and two very cold, wet springs have made it that much worse. Normally when it is like this I do other things but it was Harley's sophomore season and very important in his development. I will just have to start hunting every day and see what happens. It is a tough job but somebody has to do it.

^^^ I know Ripley and I were really looking forward to a busy grouse season. He is 2 and a half now so it was a crucial time for his development. Like others have said, 3 years ago I was tripping over them. That's one of the reasons I got a bird dog. Oh well there's not much you can do about it. Just gotta keep on looking. Good luck guys

I always did my daily bag limit at Stony Lake near PG but this year only wolf dropings. Shoot two which was nothing for that location

Got three hares yesterday and still quit early to clean with plenty of natural light. And IF the sharptails were closer to my hunting grounds I could have had a chance at them also.

lots of small game hereabouts even with coyotes/lynx/wolves......

Went out for rabbits on Sunday and chased a couple through the trees. Only had my open sight. 22 with me so no wing shots possible.

So there are a few around here but still not like last year.

Saw three big groups on the way into town today. Over 20 total but all spruce hens no ruffies.

Just an update......I found out today where all the Ruffed were hiding :D .........unfortunately they closed yesterday. :(

I saw no less than 9 of the little bastidges today.......someone must have dropped their reg book while out walking and the damn birds got a hold of it and came out in full force.

Saw more today than I had the entire rest of the season.
