I am attempting to use my Lee 4 hole turret press for re-loading 30-30 rifle cartridges, the problem is that the turret tries to rotate before the bullet clears the dies and it jams every time. I really can't see any way to use the auto indexing feature with these cartridges. The other problem is with the primer feed, does Lee make one that will fit on this press and take the large rifle primers???
Any help with this will be much appreciated.

Yeah, I think the turret press was only really designed to make pistol ammo. It works well with 223 also.
I have that press and have the same problem. Best I can tell there is no way around it.

I still load med rifle on it all the time, I just manually rotate.

You'll have to be more specific with your primer feed problem? I use a ram primer for my rifle cartridges.

I have a manual primer feed that takes large and small pistol primers but I don't see any listing for a large rifle primer feed for this press. Starting to look like this press was not designed for rifle cartridges. On the other hand I think it is safer to prime by hand away from the press but damn more stuff to buy.

The standard primer feed will work fine for rifle primers, they are the same external dimensions as pistol primers. Considering you most likely have to manually throw powder, is it a big hardship to manually rotate the plate as well? I use my turret press as a single stage for rifle cartridges and auto-indexing for the pistol rounds.

^^^^agreed, except I use a couple Pro 1000s for handgun loading.

I have never used the indexing rod (I don't load handgun) but I find that, using the turret press cuts Wa-a-a-a-a-y back on my time when loading rifle cartridges. In my 4 head, I de-prime and re-size (neck only on Lee collet dies, full resizing dies are chucked into the single stage presses), then I prime off the press. Then I throw throw the powder, seat the bullet, and crimp the case. All in the same time I would take to throw the powder, nearly.
I am sorry, but reloading is not about speed for me, since I don't shoot thousands of rounds each trip. I like to take my time and enjoy things.

My mistake ...the primer feed does work,I had the wrong one and thought it was for the large primers.
I can live with rotating the turret manually, just have to be extra careful not to double charge.
Thanks for the info everyone.
