So not really sure if this is most appropriate in battle rifles, milsurp or optics, but considering the expertise that resides here, I figure this is where those that know will be.

Anyone out there seen SUIT scopes in Canada? And idea what they're worth these days? Any comments on how dependable and solid they are?

This evening I stumbled across them and I'd like to learn more. Google has not been overly helpful and CGN search didn't even turn up a reference to them.

Sight Unit, Infantry, Trilux, never actually saw a real one myself

i doubt many came to canada because they had tritium in them and i suspect that is a hassle at the border, as well as only fitting the FAL top cover made for them, and only for sale as surplus after FALs went prohib

i bet a modern illuminated 4 power scope is as good or better with new optic coatings and much easier to find

The ones imported into Canada all had the tritium element removed. They show up one ebay from time to time. Besides L1A1, you can get adapter in US to mount the scope on AR. These are older generation scopes but had a rich military history to collectors.

Good to know. I did figure that they'd be a bit behind the times for scopes, but was thinking they might be a bit heavier built and more reliable than modern commercial scopes. Really my eyesight is pretty good, so I'm looking for something that won't fuss about being used like the few scopes I've owned have. Plus it looks neat and has some history.

I see the base plate for these scopes can be fitted to an adaptor as well, so that might be useful. Any idea what one of these would cost in Canada?

I have one, bought it in the states from TAPCO and brought it home way back before I knew I wasn't allowed to do that.

TAPCO also made a picatinny compatible mount for it, and idiot that I am, I didn't buy it, or I could me using it on my M-15s or AR, instead of having it gather dust on my L1A1. To add insult to injury, I had just got it and was planning to take it out and zero it the week I got my "Dear Sir, no more SAPs for you" letter!

I have the manual for it somewhere.

In the Service Rifle forum there is a thread (possibly a sticky) about service rifle optics that included some details like pictures of the reticle, how the mount works etc etc.

There are also a number of Israeli contract examples kicking around. they have a different shaped spring.

Just a few threads from internal Google CSE search, posted by owners and some knowledgeable members about them ...
