First time Ruger 10/22 buyer... PLEASE HELP ME!!

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me WHERE they are finding these Ruger 10/22's??

I have been searching online and calling gun shops across the country all afternoon...and everyone so far has been either sold out, on backorder (since APRIL at Wholesale Sports!)...or else they have only the breakdown version.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated...I kinda jumped the gun and ordered my Archangel stock FIRST, thinking that it would be no problem just to pop into my local gun shop here in Halifax and find "the most common .22 in the world"...Lol...not so fast, cowboy. I am not an experienced gunowner, and so the lesson here, I suppose, is that it's not like buying airsoft at Walmart!

I have just finished calling my 20th gun shop in the nation, in Vancouver - no luck.

Cheers

Thanks, Maelstrom...cross post.
Yes, they have the takedown version. That seems to be the most common one now = Wantsall's...same thing.

I was sweating there for a few hours, heh heh. That will teach me to run out and order the meat before the veg!

Now I have the Nomad AND the 10/22 on theior way...we shall see who wins the race.

I am convinced that there has been a "run" on them due to the increasing popularity of the after-market tactical stocks.

I have a little spot that always seems to have whats out of stock, in stock there.... I won't tell you their name since it won't be true if every checks there but it rhymes with Rarie Run Raders.

I bought the SR-22 as my first 10/22 and I haven't looked back! I love it, still own and I can't see myself selling it. Buy what makes you happy! :D

My $0.02 is this:

The target model just isn't worth it. It's really nice and all but it's a lot heavier than you think. And by the time you get the gun, a scope, some magazines etc, it's a $600+ gun.

Now on the other hand, a basic 10/22 is going to be half that. And then if you like it, perfect. Maybe you want to mod it, we'll you have more money left to do so.

I got an archangel deluxe in Canada for like $100&freight. I think it was called taccessories.com? And I got the Boyd's SS too for around the same price. (Keep in mind Boyd's will cost more in shipping than you think).

So yes the target model is nice, but not worth it IMO.

Good luck. And I saw 4 different 10/22 on the shelf today so they are out there. Good luck.

My 10/22 arrived, and it's a 20" barrel - too long, IMO, for the Nomad kit.
I'll keep it, as it's a nice gun, but this model (20" barrel, synthetic stock, fibre optic sights, blued barrel) isn't even ON Ruger's site.

I am looking for just a normal 18.5" barreled 10/22....so far I have found only the take-downs and a couple stainless barrels, and this 20" barrel which I ordered thinking it was an 18.5".

Cabelas: backordered

What a roller coaster ride trying to find the "world's most popular 22"...

Where did you see some, if you don't mind? I really have called over 30 shops across the nation. Lot's of folks still show them on their site, but when they check, sure enough, it's always the same thing "Oh, I see we're backordered!"...

;-)

I went for the cheapest one I could find because I knew I was going to mod it. I've actually seen in another thread that someone just got a really nice receiver and went from there. The one they got is all metal and looks a lot nicer then the stock one. If I had seen that I would have started with that.

Now I have a bag full of the original parts from my 10/22

The more I cfontemplate this rifle with the 20" narrow blued barrel (38.5" overall), the more I like it as it is.
Someonehad mentioned the option of swapping the 20" out for an 18.5", which I think would look better in the Nomad stock...on the other hand, it IS a very nice little rifle just as it stands. .22's have always seemed really tiny to me, but this one is just that little bit longer, hmm.

But not particularly expensive like a target version, as you say. It was about $280...although I have seen a few advertised for less, when I call they're "out" at the moment.

Of course, I have the Nomad kit, and I still will build it. I'll see what tommorrow's efforts on the phone will bring.

P&D Enterprises..

I'm prettysure I got there last one... But they were super nice to deal with.

Thanks though, Eddy.
I finally tracked one down at Gunsngames in AB...although it iturned out to have a 20 inch barrel, which would have been grrrreat, if I wasn't trying to mod it with the Nomad stock.

Anyway, I bought one anyway, and grabbed a short barrel from HiCal - now I have a barrel with both sights intact if for any reason I ever want to swap back...can't imagine why, though, these stocks are neat!

When I got mine I went for the stainless/synthetic. I wish I looked online first to see all the mods you can do to them! I bought a used SR22 barrel and did some trigger work and polished the bolt/receiver, now I need a new stock to fit the bigger barrel! There is so many option for modification on these little rimfires - I'm now looking at building another one!
You have to decide what end result you want and go from there. For my next build, I'm thinking of a SR22 with a short Dlask barrel, but that might change when I see something else that catches my eye!
