Marstar's recent batch of Yugo M59s

Less plentiful. Not sure if they are actually more accurate or better built, just less of them. I am sure a resident SKS expert will chime in. Check the stickies for tons of SKS info if you like. They do command a premium on the EE and at stores if you can find them.
 
They only command a premium when a sucker is ready to buy. They're a little better built than the Soviet or Chinese but let's face it, they're still just an SKS. I wouldn't go more than $300 for a Yugo unless it was MINT.

The other benefit is that you should be able to take them to the US without any issues, but you might need to add some yank parts and maybe remove the bayo, I'm not sure on their "assault weapons" ban, but there are some legal hoops to jump through. Since they're neither Chinese nor Soviet surplus, I know they're pretty much the only SKS that's readily available down there.
 
Yugos were not built in the same numbers as the Russian and Chinese versions, especially the M59 as it was replaced by the M59/66. Yes the SKS is plentiful now when you look at the variants available, but once upon a time you could buy $10 Enfield's out of a barrel and sporterize them as they were "just another Enfield".

Give it time.
 
I'm wondering the same. Thought they were overpriced but... try buying one off the EE. Oh, there are none? Wait there's one for over $400? Yeah maybe marstar's price wasn't that bad after all.

I tried taking pics last night but since I dropped my Canon Rebel its been acting up. Will try again. My "as new" was all matching but the stock had been sanded some time ago where the serial number had been and force matched. As almost all (or all) M59s had been refurb at some time this doesn't surprise me.

And yes lone wolf, speculation. But from the pic of Weimerjack's and looking at mine, I speculate his was as nice if not nicer than the one I got.
 
You have one! Ok, I thought you were just speaking off the cuff and didn't even own a marstar rifle. I withdraw my speculation remark, apologies.
 
I'd not call all of the M59s refurbs. Yes,they have all been taken down and checked over a couple of times probably by now. There are ones out there that are all numbers matching with nothing renumbered on them.
 
SKS is not a cheap rifle.If will be produced today in Europe will cost at least the same as AK 47 Romanian that is sold in US for 600$.

Except then they would be up to the standards of what's expected from a modern firearm. I woud gladly pay only $600 for a high grade (tier 1 if you're an AR fanboy) Euro-built modernized SKS with a quality finish. Surplus arms are just that, surplus. Hand-me-downs from has-been tin pot dictatorial nations who cranked them out by the millions, and are only worth a couple hundred bucks.

Unless you put on a Tapco stock, clamp bipod, and NCStar red dot with a 30 round duckbill mag. Then it's worth a grand. :rolleyes:
