M&P22 v.s. GSG

No, but plastic which I also hate on any pistol. I'm also not a Walther fan as they have put out some crappy stuff before. I'm always optimistic that there will be another Ruger type .22 come on the market at a good price.....well built solid steel and reliable that will last a lifetime but I don't think that is ever gonna happen. There are some nice .22 1911s close to $1k out there, but that is pricey. I'm starting to think the best bet now is a .22 conversion sitting on a decent already owned 1911.

Quality wise, I agree. But for people just starting out, these 2 choices will foot the bill.

You dont get the 3 adjustable grips like you do with the full size models, but having held them at the same time, the .22 and the 9mm are essentiallythe same weight and footprint

Why do you prefer the M&P?

It is not as picky when it comes to ammo. Fit and finish, it is more appealing. It is also lighter than the GSG. I find it is more accurate as well.

I'm sure the 1911 lovers will disagree with you, especially with all the polymer plastic on the M&P... my GSG had great fit, the finish is weak though. Looking at their website, the M&P is made by Walther, didn't know that.

Love my gsg1911. Nearly 8000 rounds so far, nearly flawless so far, polished the feed ramp just after I got it and that made all the difference... Likes fed bulk, ideally copper washed...... But as you know .22 ammo is so cheap really, I will use whatever I can be...
Good luck....
Oh I removed the finish from the slide within two weeks of purchase.....wasn't going to last... But polished alloy looks great

Could you post a pic of your polished slide... I am interested in seeing this.

After 800rnds the finish on my Sig 1911-22 slide is still holding up well. The notch that holds the slide back shows a little wear but has not affected the slide from staying open on the last round.
fyi....I picked up a couple of GSG mags and they work fine. The only diff is the logo on the base plate.

Based on my findings both the GSG and Sig 1911-22 are probably the same HG's. I haven't handled a GSG so can't really compare them. I ended up not buying a GSG cause I did not like their logo design on the slide. (I know...picky)
However, the wood grips on tfhe Sig are nicer than the plastic ones on the GSG imo.

When I went shopping I found the GSG version with the black plastic grips. For more $$ you can get the wood grips. When Q had their sale on the Sig the price of the two wood grip versions was almost identicle.
My decision to go with the Sig came down to the GSG logo(didn't like it) vs the Sig line. YMMV

$379 at Wolverine for either wood or plastic grips. I got mine there. Spare parts kit is a good idea to get as well if you go with the GSG....Blueline has them for $25 or something.

I wonder if it's just from being soft, or from the slide stop riding too high? I did a little fidgiting with mine, and the spring tension is fine, but the face of the slide stop where the detent pushes against it is pretty much flat with no angle to it at all, which allows it to ride up and down as the pistol fires. I thought of either filing an angle on it so the detent pushes the slide stop downwards, or drilling a little divot to give the detent something to hold on to. I went with the drill as I figured if I wasn't happy with that route I could always file it down after. I made sure to just barely touch it with the 1/16" bit...too deep and there may be too much tension for the mag spring to push it up when empty. So far this is working as planned, it keep the stop from riding against the slide, and the mags will still lock the slide open when empty. Now to fire 20,000 rounds to see if it makes any difference... :)

Thanks for the tip Hitzy, I tried your mod out last night and it is waaaaaaaay better. It was getting annoying because my slide stop would just fall out if I tilted it to the left.

went today to local shop...had a chance to check out M&P 22...mmmm...soooo tempted....fits so nice , smooth slide ... fit and finish is awesome...wonder if it would fit my XD40 holster  lol ... to top it.. I haven't seen anything negative on the net as far as reliability

Had my new M&P 22 out the other night, and this one is a keeper! Only ran 50 rounds through it, but am already more than impressed with the way it feels and shoots. The only thing that I had to adjust to was the long trigger travel forward to reset, otherwise everything was 100% convenient and comfortable. As a bonus I put 17 out of 20 in the black, which is something I'm rarely able to do with any pistol at our range (~17m).

Here's hoping it keeps shooting longer than my GSG did.

Good stuff....I'm still trying to decide between M&P 22 and Sig 1911-22...almost got the M&P on Friday - very nice gun , like the looks of Sig better and the fact that it could be a full size 1911 trainer , but there is so much negative crap about the Sig/GSG on forums ...hmmm

Farmer Harv....what happened to your GSG?

After the first few mags I was having a light strike problem with it, and I had to push the slide forwards with my thumb a tiny fraction with every shot to ensure the round would fire. Sent it to Blue Line where they replaced the firing pin (I think they told me it was bent due to dry firing, even though I don't dry fire rimfires) and a few other minor parts, but it never did work 100%. Sold it cheap with full disclosure on the EE, and never looked back.

Is the trigger "hinged" on the M&P22. What's that all about....

The trigger hinge is supposed to be like the little paddle on a Glock...keeps the pistol from firing if it isn't being pressed the right way (by a finger). Looks and feels a bit funny, but doesn't seem to affect my shooting, although I can always blame it if I have a bad group. :)

I would have bought the Sig also. But in reality, you can't beat the warranty and service that Blueline offers. If warranty is needed on the Sig where do you send it and how long is it going to take. I actually went with the M&P 22 myself.

I've owned my GSG since they first came into the country. My wife kinda stole it from me because she doesn't like the centerfire handguns. I think it's a good bang for the buck, but has some flaws. Finish on the slide is poor and the gun runs great when clean, but jams consistantly after about 400 rounds. I have between 2-3 thousand down the pipe, for $370 I'd buy again:
