Most fun gun to hunt deer?

I love my single shots...theres just something about knowing that you only have the one shot, so it better be perfect!! A nice flint lock would be epic for a deer hunt...Shooting self molded lead balls.

Robinson XCR. Removed the brake and its lots of fun. Really turns heads when I pull it out of the truck for a walk. Just have to make sure to only bring the 5 round mag:)

Oh I should also clarify, when hunting with the Sub2000, make sure you only load 5 rounds in th emag and have at least one other mag in a pocket with 5 rounds in it to have some evidence of following the rules. It worked for me here but probably not in Ont

The most fun gun to hunt deer with imo is the one that allows the most opportunity for a deer to be taken, for me the 7mm rem mag tikka fits the bill perfectly.

I can use the rifle in the bush, but if i come up to a wide open field or long cutline i can still take advantage of the shot.

x5 on the Win 30-30 lever! Tasco red dot. I have lost track of the # of deer I have bagged with it. I have shot deer at 5 yards, and out to 120 with it in the Ontario woods.

My first deer gun was a Rem 30-06 carbine semi with a scope. Missed too many deer with that one, glad it is gone.

Doesn't it use pistol magazines? So you could load 10 rounds in it if you wish, couldn't you?

I've really been enjoying deer hunting in the thick stuff with my Ruger #1 in .303 British. Only issue is that where I hunt in November, it's steep, steep and always nasty weather. So I leave it at home and take a stainless rifle instead. Another fun thick bush rifle is my 45 Colt Mdl 94 trapper with 16" barrel. Feels like I'm carrying a toy gun. :)

The rifle regs for deer in Ontario simply state centrefire. Sub 2000 would be good to go. :ar15:

As for magazine capacity,

"Under the Criminal Code of Canada you cannot possess
any clip/magazine that holds more than five shots for a
semi-automatic centre fire non-restricted firearm unless that
clip/magazine has been specifically exempted, pursuant to the
Firearms Regulations."

Since it's a pistol magazine, would that be "specifically exempted"?

I've used Bolt guns, scoped and not, shotguns, and rifles in semis & pumps. There is no nicer rifle to carry in the bush than the traditional slab sided iron sighted (peeps) lever gun.

Semis are fun for some people, but I've never been one that gets his kicks from spraying the bush, and the Remington I had was completely unreliable.

Pump guns, I could get into. They can be fast, and light, and come in decent calibers if you want to carry it for moose as well. Limited selection of makers though.

Bolt guns, for me, they are boring, slow, and for some models anyway, clunky to handle compared to lever guns. They are of course quite reliable.

Shotguns, Pump or auto loader, limited here to three rounds in the mag. Ammo is big and clunky. They do have to added spice of taking small game if you are licensed and have a change of shotshell with you. But they are somewhat limited in range, although recent advances are changing that. Big gamer loads in shotguns tend not to be for the recoil sensitive.

My preferences are the '94, and the '92 Winchester.

The cartridges I've taken in these two are the 44-40, and 30-30.

Want fun? have a black bear come out of the thick stuff at close range (mine was about ten feet) when you are carrying a '92 in 44-40.

BTW, it works.

Considering all of the above, the most absolute fun I've had is stalking game with close range cartridges, or my crossbow. Watching for them to put their heads down or look away so you can move monitoring the wind etc.

Yes, it uses Glock mags, so they hold 10, I never read far enough into the regs or tried to "interpret" them to see if I could put ten in it. I put 5 in just to make sure I was OK if I got stopped, which it turns out I did, and have an extra mag in my pocket to show my intent. And who knows if the CO would know the rules or be willing to accept that explanation. Plus, if I need more then 5, I shouldnt be taking the shot. I have set a person limit of 50 yards with it too. Although I think 100 is possible, I dont think I'm good enough to do it at that range with that gun
