I've used Bolt guns, scoped and not, shotguns, and rifles in semis & pumps. There is no nicer rifle to carry in the bush than the traditional slab sided iron sighted (peeps) lever gun.
Semis are fun for some people, but I've never been one that gets his kicks from spraying the bush, and the Remington I had was completely unreliable.
Pump guns, I could get into. They can be fast, and light, and come in decent calibers if you want to carry it for moose as well. Limited selection of makers though.
Bolt guns, for me, they are boring, slow, and for some models anyway, clunky to handle compared to lever guns. They are of course quite reliable.
Shotguns, Pump or auto loader, limited here to three rounds in the mag. Ammo is big and clunky. They do have to added spice of taking small game if you are licensed and have a change of shotshell with you. But they are somewhat limited in range, although recent advances are changing that. Big gamer loads in shotguns tend not to be for the recoil sensitive.
My preferences are the '94, and the '92 Winchester.
The cartridges I've taken in these two are the 44-40, and 30-30.
Want fun? have a black bear come out of the thick stuff at close range (mine was about ten feet) when you are carrying a '92 in 44-40.
BTW, it works.
Considering all of the above, the most absolute fun I've had is stalking game with close range cartridges, or my crossbow. Watching for them to put their heads down or look away so you can move monitoring the wind etc.
