Had the SKS out for the second time and on the 3rd loading it let go with all four rounds at once. i did do a good cleaning each time it was used and when new. I have heard about slam fires and assuming this is related to the same problem. What the best advise to fix this problem??

Thanks

Completely disassemblem the bolt, spray brake cleaner on and in the pieces, your pin is sticking. Then scrub the the parts and part back together, shake the bolt your should here it clicking.

Thanks For the helpfull reply Matt! I want this problems solved, if not i guess i wouldnt have posted here would I
Dyspnea, good idea on the brake clean. If left over cosmoline in the pin ,should i try boiling water as well?

Also, clean the trigger mechanism thoroughly.
You need to determine the cause of this malfunction.
If it is slam firing, there is the risk of you or the rifle being damaged.
I would suggest that "SKS has gone full auto!" might not have been the best header. "SKS malfunction" might have been a bit more subtle.

if there's leftover cosmoline, it won't be "in the pin", take the bolt apart, there's ton's of videos to show you how. you can boil it, use brake cleaner etc etc. just make sure the bolt is cosmo free, wipe down the pin, extractor and ensure there's nothing on the bolt face. i use Qtips on mine with some Hoppe's 9.

and if you want to be really safe, order a spring loaded pin. they're about 40 bucks shipped to your door and that will help reduce any chance of having your issue repeat itself.

YES post about your SKS going full auto - If it's firing out of battery, ie slamfire, or stuck firing pin, that's dangerous to the operator and bystanders. Bring it up, talk it out, get it fixed.

This
And though i have put many many dirty filthy rounds thru mine with little more than a stuck bolt once.
your pin may be stuck
if you can see it sticking out of the bolt and its stiff to push in or won't with your finger ..then its stuck...get er fixed and enjoy ;-)

If you shake your bolt does the firing pin rattle? I've been looking at picking up an sks after I get my PAL but in the meantime I've been reading up and watching youtube video's on them. There's a few videos on slam fires and even more on cleaning the bolt to prevent them.

You need to make sure your firing pin is clean, loose (you can hear it rattle back and fourth easy) and don't lube it.I have shot thousands of rounds through mine and never had this problem but my Russian friend made sure to tell me about this. Brownell's sells a nice spring loaded firing pin for $40.SKS knew this was a problem but decided to save 5 cents by eliminating the spring!

Don't post about your sks going full auto.

LOL! How can he expect help to get it fixed if he doesn't tell us what it's doing?
Take the bolt apart and clean, reassemble and make sure the firing pin rattles back and forth. What ammo were you shooting? One of my SKS's doesn't like commercial ammo and doubles and triples with it but all the others shoot it fine. The commercial has softer primers that that particular gun just doesn't like I guess. It's fine with milsurp stuff though so no biggee.

I don't have anything to offer that hasn't already been said, but I'm curious...
You said "all four rounds went off";
Did you only load four, then have a slam fire and auto fire all at once?
Did you load five, fire one, then fire the second and have a burst?

It hasn't happened to me yet, but I bet I'll shyt myself. :)
