Both are 55gr. The AE Tactical is 379,95$ and the AE is 349,95 (Both for 1000 rounds)

Does the AE "Tactical" as any advantage other than it come in black box and have "Tactical"
written on the box?

More velocity? Mil-Spec?

That ammo is only available to Operators operating in an operational environment I'm afraid. Enhances mission effectiveness through proprietary tactical packaging and enhanced target down-rangeness made to SOF mil-spec delta seal team 6 standards of bulletyness.

:p I'm not sure. I've handled individual boxes but wasn't looking at the time. For $30 its probably the marketing gimmick.

From what I understand, the "Tactical" uses harder primers, and is more suited for use in AR style rifles. I don't know why that would be, and I forget where I read that. I figure it's a gimmick.

I've almost worked my way through half a case of the tactical stuff now. Its nothing fancy.

I have always liked the red boxed AE 55gr ammo. If that is cheaper, grab it!

I believe that some of the 1000 round deals on the tactical ammo includes an ammo can so maybe that adds some cost?

Also, there are 100 round boxes of the tactical stuff out there that were a smoking deal when I grabbed a few.

I have gone through a few (20 rd) boxes of both of them in my new savage .223... to me they are the exact same. both identical in case markings and appearance. both same POI.

and at my local WSS they are same price ($8.00 / 20 rd box)
though, like cavs42 says, right on the box it is marked as being the "harder" mil spec primers, and they are supposed to be optimized for use in AR type fire arms.

flawless function in my axis tho.

I remember when I first saw the "black cardboard box" .223/5.56mm AE Tactical on the gun-shop shelves......at the range it worked (for me) the exact same as the .223/5.56mm "red & black cardboard box" AE .223...:yingyang:

But since I like to say the words "high-speed low-drag"....:nest:....

.......High-speed low-drag........

adjective
1. of or pertaining to tactics especially military or naval tactics
2. characterized by skillful tactics or adroit maneuvering or procedure: tactical movements.
3. of or pertaining to a maneuver or plan of action designed as an expedient toward gaining a desired end or temporary advantage.

It's either that or call it zombie ammo. Normally it's used to increase price.

they are the same ammo...

no difference at all

have both... neither has crimped primers, or any visual difference... and I dont have to change zero out to 300m with them,

to be fair, i see different primers in the SAME BOX of both "types"

so the variation between rounds in one "type" is likely more then the variation between the two "types"

I send an email to Federal to make things clear.

They said the difference is the bullet they use.

I send another email asking to be more specific than "the bullet is different" and give more details.

Ill post the answer as soon as I got it.

It's had extra tactical added during the process. It increases tacticalability. Some say it increases it by as much as 37% in 28% of the times they are used - thus increasing its.....cost to produce and therefore....justifying it. Yes. Yes that's it.

the packaging is more user friendly for us colour blind folk.

saves the customer the little embarrasement of having to "point out" the box from all the other brands and colour boxes.
BEFORE:

I'll take some of that .223" points to a box of .223*

"you mean these guys"

"uh no, the other ones, above them"

"the federal? which ones you want? red box or the blue box?" waggles finger between both*

"uhhhhh..... blue?"

"Alright"

*just see's black and grayish.

NOW WITH THE AE TACTICAL

"can I get the .223 in the ehite and black box you got over there?"

"sure"

"thanks!"

*walks out with exactly what I wanted

ps: I personally am not colourblind, I just had that funny little thought in my head, the gun stores keep their ammo just out of my sights ability to read the small lettering most boxes have for their brand and model, grain etc. I kinda rely on the colour of some of the boxes to get me roughly close to the ammo I want when first approaching the counter.
