I am looking for a few recommendations for an over/under shotgun.
Preference is for a 20Ga with 26in barrel. Budget is under 1K all in. Primary use will be for upland birds.
I was looking at both the IGA Condor and the Stevens 512 Goldwing however I think a may be able to get more gun and stay well within the 1K.
Thoughts??

Is there a discernable advantage to an over/under vs a side by side for upland birds or is it simply a matter of personal preference?

It is a matter of personal preference. I used a 20 gauge SKB sxs for years and liked it except it didn't have ejectors but was light and quick handling . I now use a 12 gauge Franchi Renaissance I bought NIB and it works well and has not affected my shooting one way or the other but I like the ejectors. A sxs seems to carry a bit easier since its not top heavy but again I don't notice a big difference.

The differences are minor, some prefer the single sighting plane of the O/U, the SxS has a tiny bit of an advantage for unloading/reloading as technically it should expose the breech a little sooner than the O/U because of the shallower angle of the SxS. This factor might help one out in a crowded ground blind while waiting for waterfowl, but is a moot point for upland birds. Personal preferances mean more than these slight technical variances IMO.

I have a Heritage Softail.

On the shotguns,my British friends I shoot with tell me in England the only thing that's considered a true sportsman's shotgun is a SxS. If you show up at a shoot with an O/U they may look down their noses a bit,but if you have a pump or semi they might well send you back to the colonies.

As has been said, its all personal preference. I love my SxS's,but shoot just as well with my O/U,but best of all with my Maxus.

+1 on the used Citori. Stay away from cheap over/unders.

Just yesterday, I saw one with an asking price of $1050 for an almost new gun. I will PM you with the info.

I own a couple of each style. It's all about what feels better to you. Easier to find a decent O/U in your price range than a SxS though. Ellwood Epps has a used SKB 20g. O/U which would serve you well, it's listed in the used section.

Thanks for all the inputs folks...I appreciate the assistance. I have a week in the bush next week with my trusted old single shot 20Ga and I will finally retire her for a yet to be named O/U or possibly SxS.

Franchi's are nice for around that dollar mark

I have a Franchi o/u but mine is a 12ga. Believe me, at the end of the day your arms and shoulders will be thanking you for using this lightweight shotgun.

Prices are good now, actually less than what I paid. But, I set out to purchase a Beretta and had the budget but the fit was off.

Put on your hunting jacket, head out to the local shop and try as many as possible to get a sense for fit and feel
