Brand new .22 ; Does it have a damaged crown?

I just brought my brand new .22. Brought it home and spent over an hour mounting the base, rings, centering and aligning the scope. Come to find out it has a gash near the muzzle, and many other gashes on the outer perimeter of the muzzle. I noticed early on the front sight post isn't perfectly aligned as well but since I was planning on using mostly a scope I was willing to overlook this, but now that I find out the muzzle isn't 100% I'm kinda second guessing myself and I'm disappointed.

Question is should I return it and ask to have the company send me in a replacement barrel or should I take it to the range before complaining about it?

Looks pretty close to the edge. I'd probably take it back to see if they'll exchange or do something about it.

try uploading the image else where, like tinypic or photobucket. doesn't look like the one you're using is supported since it's doing some redirecting jazz.

Its a 10/22 so it would be easier to just get a replacement rifle. Id box it up and take it back, show the store and get them to grab you another and check it before you leave the store. I think Ruger is going through a low QC phase with their new fast pace. Problems have shown up in the new 10/22 TD so this doesnt surprise me. I hope they can fix the QC issues and not just sweep them under the rug and keep selling crappy POS guns like Remington does. If you get stuck with it then you can carefully face the crown off with a file and recrown it with a wood screw and lapping compound. Id wait to see what the store says before trying any modifications however.

X2. That looks like crown damage, though the picture is a little iffy.

It happens... and unless you see it in the store before you buy it, you are going to have a hell of a time exchanging it (at least I did).
I had it happen once with a Ruger GP100. Terrible 'dent' on the crown. I ended up selling it at a loss as it bothered me too much.

Cheers~

I've seen many dented or damaged crowns remedied with a steady hand and a chamfer tool. Takes about 30 seconds. Not something I'd worry about too much on a .22 plinker :)

That shiny ding in the crappy pic, with the red arrow pointing at it?

Doesn't look good. Loooove to see a better pic, but at this point, take it back and exchange it, yep
