Anyone get a CFB Suffield elk tag?

That's kind of what I figured would happen. We talked about it, but decided against it. Could either be a great opportunity to fill a freezer, or could be a complete gong show. Hopefully it turns out to be the former and is the first of many such opportunities.

Boy, I sure hope not. I'm old enough to remember the lottery days (or should I say never get drawn while a few seem to get tags every year days)
I love our draw system. You can hunt whatever you like virtually every year, and can plan your next years hunt right now with 100% certainty. Just have to spend some time researching priorities and draw results; pick your wmu to hunt accordingly.
It's a fair system. I like fair. I don't buy lottery tickets for good reason. :)

Some of the priority system draws are a bit of a failure though. Like the trophy ram draws (aside from 438) where someone just entering the draw now will not draw that tag 'til they are getting senior citizen discounts or possibly never....unless a bunch of high priorities decide to stop applying or die-off.

I think the priority system for antlerless on the base would work b/c it wouldn't get too back logged but if they ever started a bull tag on the base I think that would best be a lottery tag.

Regardless having some hunters on the base should make things interesting for the guys that have bull tags outside the base. May stir thigns up a little!

The Elk are beyond legendary but I'll pass on the Suffield experience, thanks anyhow.
I'm not a big horn hunter anyhow and the hassle of 'the Block' isn't worth it.

Them folk's that oversee 'The Block' are wired pretty tight, I'm sure they get out of the shower to pee.
I spent in the neighbourhood of 6 years working out there & grew up just off of the south fence between Bingville and Charlie gates.
And Range Control out there...wow! There is probably one or two that are not ... umm... close to Section 8? To those individuals I apologise in advance. But the others...holy cow, deep breaths guys; in with the butterflies & out with the bees.
But if you want the biggest Rack and don't mind a little extra hassle, it's the place.

I tried right at 9am but the site was flooded. Could not get and by the time I did they were sold out. Crap.
I believe that the tag is for a cow only and not the bull. It might be a gong show, who knows, and thats why I did not apply. However, a depleation of the heard is needed where I heard there is maybe up to 8,000 elk on the Suffield base. Good luck to all the hunters!

The 8000 number is about right.
Some Gov't folks contacted the owner of the Abattoir down the road from my place about it a few months ago.
I'd started a thread but thought I might be betraying a confidence so left it unposted.

Tokguy, Yes it's cows only.

FYI as well I'm 99% sure it's range control who run the block. I was down there this summer and met some. they are all infintary, tankers and artillery. Two of them were either from the special forces or just on the way to the sf. They seamed switched on to me.
