It was raining pretty good yesterday, but a friend and I drove up to some property I have access to and took a couple of our guns. I took my Supernova and my CZ-858. I just wanted to share a couple observations I made and maybe get some feedback from you guys on a small issue..
First of all, after the first shot I was amazed by the lack of recoil on the 858. It really doesn't feel much different than my .22, except for the muzzle climb (I'm going to add a Muzzle Brake). This rifle is so much fun to shoot and is so manageable, I could've stayed there all day shooting if the weather hadn't gotten crappy on us. Once I got shooting it, I immediately realized I need to go ahead with a range membership so I can get out shooting more often.
Secondly, I was pretty impressed by the accuracy out to 100yds. I don't have a sight tool yet so I was limited in elevation adjustment, but once I knew where I was hitting I would just hold a little low and it was grouping very well. At about 25yds I'm hitting dead-on. Would you guys recommend a 25yd zero? I'd like to hear what zero you guys are using and why.
Now the small issue, although it only did it the first few times we'd chamber the first round after a mag change. I'm pretty sure it was only one or two of the mags that gave me problems. After a mag change, I'd pull back and release the charging handle to chamber the first round, and that first round would get jammed half way. It kind of seemed like the issue may have just been the coating on the lips of the magazine being too thick. After a few of these malfunctions it didn't cause me anymore trouble. There were no failures to feed during operation and the rifle cycled all 5 rounds in rapid fire with no issues. My friend was laughing cuz all the first 4 cartridges were still in the air as I took the 5'th shot. He was bugging me about this rifle when I bought it cuz he only likes hunting guns, but he was grinning after he put some rounds through it.
One more thing I wanted to add. I cleaned the rifle with boiling water, followed by a normal cleaning routine. I stripped everything down and went crazy on it and was amazed by how dirty this corrosive ammo is, or at least the particular one I'm shooting. There was black soot everywhere. Anyway, she looks brand new again and I'm a happy camper. The Fab grip I added is fantastic. Now I just need to get rolling on wood handguards.
