I am currently awaiting my first custom build and I was hoping to have all my components together when it arrives. It is a 260 Rem, 26" Kreiger 1-8 twist, chambered by Sean from North Shore barrels. It is built on a Pierce action and will be fed from an AI magazine. The gun will mostly be used for banging steel alongside my 338 Lapua. I was looking for a little advice as far as what bullets I should be looking at. What is working for you guys running a similar setup?

I'm getting good results right now with Matrix Ballistics 129 gr VLD. I have done some development with the 142 from Matrix as well. My barrel is a Shilen Select Match 1:8.5 30" on a Savage action. I just picked up 500 of the 129's. If I get the 142 shooting well, I may switch to that for the extra weight and wind bucking ability, I am very happy with the 129. I tried 139 gr Lapua Scenars as well,, had some good results but inconsistent in my rifle... it could have been me, so I am going to test those again just to confirm. Bergers did not shoot well out of my setup. Marshal at Matrix Ballistics is great to deal with too.

I was wondering about Matrix bullets. I don't recall seeing the VLD on their website. Do the bullets seem to be jump tolerant? I'm hoping to find a combo that will not have to be single fed.

You have to contact him directly for the options not on the website, Ive got some .277 145gr. VLD's that someone must of custom ordered. Ill see what he can do as far as 25 cal heavy vld's.

Matrix 142's are exceptional. You clearly need a jump tolerant bullet if mag feeding, and the 139 Lapua or the 142 SMK will likely be good performers. VLD's tend to be seating depth sensitive (Haven't found one that wasn't) and tend to be too long for magazines.

If you want ultra-accurate with high BC, then the 140 Berger VLD is about as good as they get, although I do not know Marshall's real BC of his 142 Matrix. I know Marc Thibault uses 142 Matrix in his 260 and he is one of the top F-Classers in the West.

One bullet I know nothing about and would love to see reviewed is the Hornady Match series. They have a 6mm and a 6.5 that look good on paper.

I am loving my .260 rem build by Sean or juanvaldez. I have shot the Lapua Scenar 108's to 800m and found them wind sensitive at 600m, 700m and 800m (of course, they warned me the 108 is a SR boolit). I've just bought a couple of boxes of the 139 gr Lap Scenar for load development this winter. Soon in the spring I will be testing them at LR starting at 600m and beyond.

My .260 Rem Shilen Select match barrel is 20" and I'm using a fast burning powder because I'm a frugal bastage...

In the meanwhile the 95 gr Hornady Vmax shoots like a PR boolit with amazing results.... :D Super happy!

Cheers,
barney

I am running the 123gr Lapua Scenar and love it! in the 260 Sean built for me! and the 125gr Nosler bt rocks too

I've gotten pretty good results out to 900m with the Lapua 139gr moly Scenars. About the 2900fps range, and consistently about 1/2 to 1/3 of the wind of a 155gr SMK in .308.

With any of the 120-140 class bullets you can't go wrong. I've had success with 120 A-max, 123 MK's, 130gr Bergers, 139gr Scenars and 142gr MK's. What ever shoots best in your rifle is the ticket.

I imagine that I'll lean toward the 140gr bullets being as I'll have the twist for them. Any standouts as far as a powder that isn't temperature sensitive?

Well I think the fact your using a mag to feed may be a down side. With the 6.5 bore shooting LR you want to load about .010 long so the bullet is jammed into the lands. Using berger 140 VLD will give you the best accuracy you can achieve. Powder in the 260 would be the H4350 or H4831.
The rest is up to the shooter?

139 Scenar. They shoot great, don't seem to mind a jump to the lands. Here's a group I shot with my Factory Sako 85, 22" 1-8 twist barrel.
I'm sure your custom setup will out perform mine, and with the longer barrel, you should be able to get much better velocities.

I'm not opposed to single feeding but I always try to find a combo that will mag feed first. It would be a shame to spend all that money on fancy bottom metal and never use it lol.

That is a very slow powder for use in the 260.

I had read an article or a post online about guys using H1000 in 243's. So I looked it up and there was data for my 260. So I tried it out. I tried several loads that were all great, speeds aren't super fast, but the sd on that particular load was about 3 fps.
Great target load.
