Hey guys,

just picked up a 303 from a guy and was looking at it, has been modified with parker hale sights, monte carlo sights still a beautiful rifle, its a No.4 MK1
guy had it lying around didnt want it any more so he handed it to me no charge:)

then i was talking with a customer of mine and we were chatting about guns, i was telling him i was looking for a 303, he said hes got something hanging on his wall, missing a few parts but i went to look at it and its a 303 with the full stock not sporterized, i asked him what he wanted for it, he said get it out of my garage its yours its also a No.4 MK1

trying to start up a new collection with these things, id post a pic but i cant figure out how

there got it to work, currently looking to find all the pieces i need for the restore of the 303 i need a bolt,clip, screw for the back of the trigger, the wooden tops, the rings to hold the tops on, i just robbed the parts from my other rifle for the moment
 
You got a parker hale sporter for free???!!! Man wish I was as lucky as you.
The top one is a sporter and did not come with wood handguards, I would leave that as is, but if you want to make it full wood I will gladly buy those PH wood pieces from you.

Post an ad here on EE of what you need, should be able to get most of it, marstar, tradeex, and Numrich arms should have everything you need that you can't find on here.
 
i was thinking of leaving the ph as is, i kinda like it, its a tough gun with a sporty look, i just applied to join the group for ee few people i found online that have the parts for it, i know the top one has been sported, but the bottom one hasnt and thats what i was looking for originally so i think the one that hasnt been sported im goin to fully restore its a beautiful rifle, and guys that have them want an arm and a leg for them
 
Thats what I have been doing, restoring them back, I think I am at #6 including a jungle carbine.
Be careful! They are addictive. Good luck in your parts hunt, post up a few photos when it is restored!

Leave the Parker Hale Sporter as is. The barrel has been cut down and restoration of this one would be a major and expensive project. Besides, it is a FACTORY sporter conversion using a later No.4 Mark II rifle.

The other No.4 is definitely a restoration project. It should not take very much, and the parts are readily available. Try Trade-Ex for the needed parts, as they had some top handguards and other pieces you need for sale. There is a link to Trade-Ex at the top here in the Sponsors area, (T.E.C. Trade Ex Canada Limited) and they are great people to deal with. You can phone their toll free line and Anthony should be able to help you with most of what you need.

From the looks of it, you need the two top handguards, a center barrel band and a front barrel band. All relatively inexpensive. When you do restore the Military rifle, go slow and clean only --no sandpapering and especially power tools. There are a lot of threads here on restoration. Do not reblue it as that will lessen the value, while a CAREFUL cleaning will add to the value.

With the Parker Hale Sporter, you can do a minor cleaning and see what you have. If not too bad, MINOR repairs, cleaning or alterations might be called for if you want to retain the Factory Sporter original nature of the rifle. If you want a hunting rifle or "truck gun" type of all purpose rifle, and it looks like the rifle needs re-blueing and a lot of wood working, then it might be considered a project rifle for you to work on. Be aware that a lot of surface rust can be removed by fine steel wool judiciously used, and after this is done, a light oiling of the metal might look good. If you go this route, do not use steel wool and oil together as the rust removed will act as an abrasive in the oil suspension.

Don't get too carried away. They may "want" an arm and a leg for them but restored they are only worth maybe 400.00. Unrestored in pristine condtion they are worth more but hardly an arm or a leg. The PH is a purpose built sporting rifle and is probably worth more in its present condition than it would be "restored". Hard to say about the No. 4 without a lot more pictures.
 
im pretty sure the sporter is an mk1 unless im that blind.... the no4 needs a bolt and a clip, which i put in from the sporter, and a trigger screw, id like to finish it, im goin today to look at some bayonets i found, i was thinking of keeping the sporter as a hunting rifle its nice true gun, id like to keep collecting them im quite intrigued with these things:)

from what i can tell it say No.4MK1 seems to be the general idea, its very faded so to speak any tru way of telling?

BUFFDOG has it 100%.

The full-wood rifle can be restored quite easily with a bit of cleaning and a handful of parts. Trade-Ex has the wood parts in new condition and slightly-used as well as all the metal parts required.

The Parker-Hale should be left strictly as-is as it now is a Sporting rifle and a very nice one. Clean it up, polish it nicely, it will last another 2 or 3 generations.

Some guys are just BORN lucky, I guess!

Good score, I wish I had your luck! That Parker Hale is a beauty, a professionally done sporter as was mentioned before and not a hackjob.
