Hey fellas I have a BLR 358 I want to shoot the hornady 250gr pills from. What load data can you provide me with. I have lots of RL15,Varget,H4350, 4198, h380 and some others. Looking for a good load for Bambi. I load for my Whelen but this is a little smaller case so give me some pointers please. Thanks.....Scott

Some 358Win BLRs of my acquaintance had trouble with some loads and the rear iron site adjustment range. Can't remember now whether it was the 250s or the 200s that were the problem. If scoping then it's a non issue probably - unless the irons will be relied upon as backup. As always your mileage may differ.

Great thanks for the info gents. I can always count on CGNer's years of experience to help a fella out. Better get to the reloading room...............

I have a Ruger frontier, had problems finding a load that would work in the 16.5" barrel until I tried IMR 4198 with the Hornady 250 S.P. WOW is it accurate and shoots reasonably flat to 250 yards. Killed a few mule deer with this load , three weeks ago bullet went through both shoulders of a 3 point with an exit wound you could almost cover with a toonie. The deer I have shot with this went down hard but bullet always sails through with little sign of expansion. I also use this bullet in my 35 Whelen, last years bull moose was looking straight at me at about 70 yards, I hit it high in the chest/base of neck the bullet exited behind the hump and kept going, and the moose dropped in its tracks. I think for the .358 I might try the Hornady 200 S.P. It will probably be a better match for the velocity of .358.

I bought a box of 180, 200 and the donut pill 250.
One day at the range I shot three groups of three.
I believe there was over six inches of drop from the tall
180's (about 2" above the 200 grain holes) to the bottom
where the 250's landed.
This was at a 100 yards.
Find out what your BLR likes better and toss those down the fur.
All I can say is that the 250 grain box of bullets will be in the collection
for a while, unless I run out of the other two.

What the heck you doing.........logging?

I know I'm chiming in a little late on this thread, but thought I would share my personal experience as a relatively new 358 shooter.

About 10 months ago, I was lucky enough to acquire a Savage 99F in 358 Winchester. I spent several months working on loads with different powders (IMR-3031, IMR-4064 and W-748) with Hornady 250 grain Spitzer Interlocks. After coming to the realization that the Bushnell Banner scope I had mounted on the 99 wouldn't take the recoil, I switched to a Vortex scope and settled on W-748 to try with it. I was not disappointed! The load I settled on was 46 grains of W-748 and I was able to go with a COAL of 2.8" in my 99. It would shoot sub-1 inch groups at 100 yards and don't consider myself to be a bench rest shooter by any means.

While moose hunting in October this year, I had a cow and twin calves come busting over a ridge and I flattened both calves (no cow tag of course) on the spot with one shot each (I might add the shots were at 15 yards!). Of course, both bullets exited with massive wounds.

Just thought I would pass this along. Love my 358! I've sold my soul to .35 caliber...
