I was looking at a nice set of old Holland & Holland bolt action rifles in .300 H&H and .375 H&H and thought that combo would be just about perfect. Do any of you have a nice matched set of light and heavy rifles?

If not, what would tickle your fancy? The above combo of .300 H&H and .375 H&H certainly would be fine. I guess the easiest route there would be a pair of single shot Rugers.

Another possibility would be a pair of Zastava M98 Mausers in something like 7x57 and 9.3x62 - certainly not a combo that would break the bank, but it would cover you for just about anything.

I've got pre-64 Model 70's in 300 H&H and 375 H&H, and some others too. I like having my rifles all the same no matter what I'm hunting.

This is my "matched set". Top is Browning Safari .375 H&H w/Leupold 1.5-5. Bottom rifle is also Browning in .30-06. Now wears a Leupold 2-7 . Both are first year of production Brownings.
My .300 H&H is a custom Winchester 70. If you want a "real" Holland rifle check out Martini-Haghn's site.

Another option would be new FN/Winchester 70 Alaskan's. Either in .30-06 or .338WM matched with a .375H&H. I absolutely love my new .338 Alaskan. Super accurate, handles and recoils more like a .30-06. Taking it with me for weeks hunting in Alberta on Friday.

That Alaskan just made me drool ;) Nice rifle in a very effective chambering for anything in Canada and most other places too :) One question...what's it weigh with scope & mounts?

Good luck on the hunt!

Yes, I never thought of the new Alaskan. They sure are nice, and would also make for a nice set.

Hey .. might be a great picture thread .. I was thinking of what I have in the way of big and small ... Cooey .410 and Cooey 12G, S&W 500 and S&W 617; Mauser action .243 and .308 Norma Mag, Remington 870 .410 and 870 12G;Henry Big Boy .357 and Henry Golden Boy. Hmm more "big and little" combos than I thought. Could do the same for knives etc.

Is your .308 NM built on a GEW98?

I've got a few matched rifles. Not really light and heavy unless a 250 is light and a 308 is heavy.;)
