Currently I have the Nork 226 clone and while I like it and its low cost to purchase I have been thinking of buying something new. The chief thing I dislike about the 226 clone is the fat, gawky grip and how everything seems to be just out of reach on it and do not like breaking my grip to use the thing fully. That said I am looking at info on the Ruger SR9 and think that is what I am seeking. I check out the venders at the top of the page and no SR9 seem to be for sale. So here it is are they in Canada ? if so by who and what is the going price for one? Whats the availability of accessories and mags, pros, cons, any and all insight is welcome.

Great pistol! I had one, ended up selling it to fund another project. i was very impressed with it, shot really well, functioned flawless, felt great in hand. They seem to be pretty popular, so finding one is always an issue. Check the EE, a few have come up in the last week or so. I bought mine new for $469, which was the cheapest i found. Other retailers seem to sell them between $470-550, lots of bang for the buck even at $550. Magazines are getting easier to find in Canada now. VERY slim grip, even with the little adjustable "backstrap" part, i have large hands but i still found it comfortable to shoot. Buy one if you can find one, you wont be disapointed.
I've shot a Ruger SR9 quite a bit and I've come to love it.
Tho I prefer non striker fired pistols this one shot excellent and my first 5 rounds ever fired in one were ALL in the bulls eye, next 5 rounds were in the 2 surrounding rings.
Very comfortable grip texture and angle, highly suggest this pistol to people.

The Ruger SR9 shoots fine. But of all the striker guns I've shot it has the CHEEZIEST feeling trigger of the lot. Sort of like pulling on something that has a rubber band pulling back on it. But despite that it shoots great and feels good in smaller hands as well as larger ones. For what it's worth between an SR9 and a Glock I prefer the SR9 for the grip shape and angle. It's on par with the M&P for grip shape and angle but for some reason I shot the Ruger with noticably tighter groups than I could get out of an M&P.
Thanks all, Nestor your so right about search being ones friend. I am growing more certain that I will own one of these guns come the new year, or if one surfaces before then. I like all the raves about about the grip. Years back I had a neck injury thats now affecting my right hand. The norky 226 is shootable but I think the SR9 would be, for me, more user friendly due to the grip. Great insight and I see I have much more reading on this gun
That would be only true for the older generation pistols.
Newer ones have (IMO) better trigger than Glock.
I went from that Norc to an SR9 this year too and it was an interesting contrast. The Norc, fat grip, brutal ugly but hardy metal, heavy DA first pull to the SR9; slender feel, nice to look at, a bit plasticky and with an overabundance of safeties. One can get used to that trigger but I think it is aimed at a target market that does not exist here. That is, a carry pistol. It is very light and it would feel great on the hip or in a paddle. I got a really nice Minotaur Gladiator holster for it. Feels very smooth. I waffle between which one I will sell because they both have their purposes. My Norc felt much better once I put a Hogue grip around it, btw. You might try that. And shoot the Norc lots and it will loosen up.
Well I bought one off the EE and the seller and I are jumping through the hoops to attend to paperwork and postage. Have to say that I am looking forward to owning a handgun that has been both designed and made in the 21st centuary and with a good background to it, plus all the positives written by those who own one. Never have I thought a firearm magazine could be "ugly" but the first time I looked closely at the 10rd only, reduced capacity, shortend mag I was aghast (plus reminded why I will never vote liberal). Man thats a homely mag, does anyone ever bring in normal full cap mags that are reduced to 10 for Canada?
