Okay , I'm thinking of getting back into pistols in the next year .
Years ago I really loved shooting them , never owned one though .
Wanting to know your opinions on what the good ones are with the following requirements :

As close to full size 1911 style semi auto .
Under , lets say , $1000 .
Available , not looking to wait forever to receive .
Mail order is fine , or shopping in person in Edmonton .
Quality gun out of the box preferred but can look into conversions if its worth it .

What can you all suggest for me ?
I shot one , I think was a GSG ? Thing was a jamomatic .
This is my first research into these , so any of your info from experience is welcome .
Thanks all .
Dana

GSG is about the only one that comes to mind. I've heard of a few issues too, but nothing that didn't have a fairly painless fix.

Only other options I can think of is getting a full sized 1911, and getting a conversion kit for it, or maybe getting a ruger 22/45 but that's kind of getting away from the 1911.

I'm, told that fed the right ammunition and lubed properly, the GSG's run well. Like any .22lr, feed it garbage and treat it like the village bike, and...

Another one you might want to look at once Blueline get there order in is the Grand Power K22S.

Like the GSG, it's built on a full size frame.

I've put my name in for one on the first order.

I had a GSG and thru 1000's of rounds only had a handful of malfunctions.
Great pistol for the price for sure!!!
Look in the pistol section and you will see alot of good reviews on the GSG.

I love my gsg. I have well over 3000 rounds through it now and the only problems I have encountered have been a few light primer strikes on cheap ammunition and a couple fte from the same cheap brands

It's quite possible that the one I shot didn't like the ammo . I believe it was that cheapo Remington ammo .
I'll look more into the GSGs for sure . What ammo do they like ?
Anywhere you all can suggest I look for price on them ?
Thank you all for this info .

A couple observations from my own GSG...

1: Mine stove piped like a mofo at first until I realised that the problem was one of the mags. It came apart one day while I was loading it into the gun, and upon reassembling it I didn't realise there was a plastic spring "carrier" inside the base plate. It's long lost now, but that mag barely works as a result. The rest are great.

2: Unless you like cleaning barrels, use plated ammo. I was happily shooting away with Blasers one day when my performance rapidly dropped off. Some close range shots to verify I wasn't losing my mind revealed that the gun was keyholing at a distance of one meter. Turned out the barrel was so fouled up with lead that you couldn't tell it had ever been rifled. Couldn't even get a bore snake through. Had to tap a cleaning rod through the barrel, mounted in a vise, to push long slivers of lead out of the rifling...

Awesome.

Dagmaar, if you decide to go with a GSG, I think Blue Line has just demonstrated they'd be an excellent place to buy one ;) (They have Rugers too...)

They like the higher speeds ammo.
They don't like (most) Remingtons. At least mine doesn't.

It's due to this A+ attitude that most of us GSG 1911 owners
are loyal to the brand and to Blue Line (even when we may have
purchased ours from other than Blue Line.)

Holy cow , your not kidding .
I'm not purchasing for awhile , but when I do Blue Line will be the first on my list !

Never seen a sponsor pick something like this out of a thread and offer such a thing .

That is awesome above and beyond customer service right there !

To all of you , thanks so much for all of the information . Getting all of your help early in the process really will be a huge benefit in the future .
Thanks again

What ammo , specifically , are you finding best ?

Okay , just checked out their site and lots of good selection . The prices seem really good as well . I know where I'll be shopping .
I'm still waiting for the RPAL course to be offered here . Been waiting for five months . Ran into the instructor the other day and he's still planning it for when enough people register . Small town , what can you do ? He's a great instructor though so its worth the wait . Just have to shoot friends pistols until then ...sigh .

Again , you have all been a big help . Thank you very much

I know you seem to be stuck on a 1911 style .22, and I have shot the GSG 1911 .22 and it made me want a 1911 really bad so I bought one in .45ACP, that said, I picked up a Ruger MarkIII with bull barrel and it is a heavy feeling solid gun and I wouldnt trade it for a GSG for anything. What I like about the ruger is the top rail on mine that is outfitted with a red dot, not really an option with a 1911 frame. Its a good shooter and never jams with ANY cheap **** I feed it. The ONLY problem I do have with my Ruger is I need a second one, once my wife started shooting, she seems to have taken over possession on this one.

On a side note, if the price was right and I found a GSG 1911 .22 with the bottom rail option for a GOOD deal, I'd buy one, it is a nice gun for sure.

if you can be a "guest" at your local club or clubs, you can probably pick up enough knowledge with some help and the text book that you could challenge the test and therefore you dont have to wait for a course, just go write the test.
