Savage no4 mk1 markings / identification “No 4 MkI F (FTR)”?

I have this savage no4 mk1 that has some markings on it and I can’t find any reference to it in any of my books. Here are some pics; No 4 MkI F (FTR) is marked above S No4 mk1* and below OC47104 which also appears on the receiver band. The barrel has Brit proofs, I think, and from the little I found on line; this may have been re-barrelled. I’m hoping someone could shed some light on this.

Looks like there may have been a problem with the barrel and it was sent back for repair.

Savage No4 MkI* should be a 1941 or early 42 build going by serial number 0C4704, rebuilt at the Fazakerly plant in Britain. F is Fazakerly, FTR is factory thorough repair. Not sure about the barrel markings though? SHould be an early MkI* too should it not?

It's from the first 5000 of Savage production obviously. What is interesting is to see how early they changed to MkI* specs vs. Long Branch who seem to have made at least 10,000 MkI, rather than MKI* rifles.

Was probably rebarrelled when FTR'd.

The lack of a date below the markings on the left receiver wall is strange. I have a 0C Savage here and it definitely has "1942" stamped in there. I'll check the SN later and if it's later than yours, then something strange is going on.

If the serial is 0C47104 (five numerals after the C) it is a very late Savage made mid 1944.
The barrel looks to be Brit; quite in keeping with a rifle that went through FTR at Fazakerly.
