Need a high BC ,224 bullet for yotes

A guy I know wants to get a 22-250 built for long range coyote hunting and there doesn,t seem to be any heavy bullets with good bc other than target bullets.

Here in N-B we are not allowed anything larger than 22cal other than during big game season , has anyone ever taken coyotes with 75 or 80 gr A max or even hollow points?
Is there a good varmint bullet for a 22 in the 75-80gr range cause I cant seem to find any.
 
For long range coyote hunting, why not get a bigger caliber? I don't know if you noticed, but the BC of the .224 bullets is not that good until you get so heavy they are slow.

In N.B we are limited to .224 unless it's in deer season,I just ordered a 1in 12 replacement barrel to shoot my go to bullets(55 blitzking)in my 22-250 Ackley but seriously thinking about a 1 in 8 for the 75 a-amax and 77g scenaars
 
Shot one last winter with my MR-1 and my pet load and Lapua Scenar 77 GR with a high BC, one bullet touch it at 300 metres and it folded like an envellop... JP.
 
I have used the 75 grain amax's and they are ok, but a very long bullet. Need the fast twist. 69 grain bthp's are my go to bullets for coyotes now.

You have the twist to shoot them?
 
We want to build this with a 1-8 twist but I,m wondering if someone has any experience shooting a coyote or even a crow with a 75 or 80 gr and what the results are.

Some guys are claiming good results with heavy A max bullets on varmints just want to hear it from someone else and confirm it .
I already know the higher BC bullets will perform well in the wind and at long ranges compared to the lighter ones causeI see it at every F-class match .

What I really would like to find is a heavy BT high BC hunting .224 bullet .
 
There are a number of premium hunting bullets designed for the 22cal. Plenty popular in the southern states.\

Swift Scirocco, Barnes, even Sierra makes some decent hunting options.

Even look at the tactical bullets. These are designed to defeat windshields and car doors. Plenty good to get through fur.

Coyotes aren't bullet proof, I'd start with what shoots best in your rifle and then change if needed. The swift looks like a very interesting bullet that wouldn't be too bad on fur, might even work well on deer.

I use to shoot 55gr. sierra's no problem with a 14 twist why do you think you need a 12 for that bullet ?
 
Was just reading about the swift bullets they have a 75gr .419 BC , this one might work well on deer from what they are saying in the reviews.
Thing is I've already shot a coyote using a berger 75gr vld target bullet out of a 22-250 and the results were bad , I hit it behind the shoulder blade at about 300 yards and it ran almost 200 yds before going down the exit hole was the same size as the entry.
 
Took more than 80 coyotes calling them one February here in the northeast of BC using a .222 and Sierra 52 grain Hollow point boat tail bullets.

Later on I used the money from the hides to buy a heavy barrel Remington 700 in 22/250. Ended up mostly using the Sako .222 the next winter instead.
 
JP- I don't think you'll be disappointed with how the amax performs. I've got a 1-8 twisted .223 AI, and it does just what you are asking with the 75 amax. Not as frangible as the 50 vmax, but very effective.
 
I used a 1-10 twist 22/250 long enough to shoot the barrel out, set it back and shoot it out again. The twist was marginal for the heavier bullets(and fast for lighter bullets), but it would cluster Hornady 75 grain BTHP match well enough to be a solid 500 'yote wacker. Never had a bullet stay in a yote, exits were usually the size of a quarter.They died in a hurry.
 
My 223 Ackley Imp has a 1:9 twist, and drives the 75 gr AMax a tad over 3000 fps. Coyotes and wolves out to 400 yd are just not safe. I imagine a 9 twist 22-250 would be pure magic with them.

The same rifle sends 40 gr Ballistic Tips off at almost 4000 fps, but does not shoot quite as flat. Take your pick. :)

Thanks I guess it confirms that the hornady Amax and BTHP do work on critters out at longer ranges I guess I will be cutting an 8 twist barrel shortly :) .

Has anyone had any luck with heavy sierra bullets on real game.
 
Lots of caribou around here drop to Remington 55 gr bulk bullets fired from .223s, .22-250s, and Swifts. I even know a fellow you has killed a number of moose with his .22-250 loaded with those same Remington bulk bullets at .223 velocities, and thinks poorly of big guns. IMHO, BC should be the last element you should consider in a bullet that you'll use on live targets. A Barnes 53 gr TSX will reach out as far as you want, and should stabilize with a 1:8 twist barrel, and make a devastating wound upon arrival. IMHO, you should consider a 1:6.5 or a 1:7 if you insist on using the longest .224 VLD/ULD bullets available.
