Does anyone have any M14 corrosive ammo cleaning tips?

Hi All,

I'm condiering buying some corrisve ammo for my M14 (because this norinco stuff won't last forever I'm sure).

Do you have any cleaing tips?

do I need to take the gas system apart? or can it just be flushed with some boiling water a couple times?

I would take the gas system apart and wash with boiling water same as the barrel ,,run a brush down the barrel and flush it again with water , then swab it with an oily patch ...remember your getting rid of the corosive salts and boiling water will remove all the oils as well as the salts ....so you must oil everything lightly after to keep from rusting ......but thats just my 2cents worth

Or go the better way, and not buy corrosive ammo. Just buy some low/mid-range .308Win. Even if its garbage ammo its still better than that corrosive stuff, and it wont really cost much more.

Or, you can just detail strip the weapon and toss 'er in the good old dishwasher after a day at the range

Remember that the corrosive salts are not disolved by solvents. You need hot water to do that.

Seriously though corrosive ammo isn't really too much cheaper than the cheap commercial ammo.

Take it right apart. Wash out with boiling hot water as it will dry within minutes. Oil and re-assemble. Good to go.

none ...because in the army your rifle craps out on you you get another for free .....your rifle at home is a diferent matter

I always assumed:

In the field you cleaned your gun with oil all the time (keeping rust at bay).

At camp you sent boiling water down the bore.

Anywhere there was no water was probably too arid to cause rust in the first place.

They would probably just pee down the bore and gas system it's mostly water and has ammonia which apparently dissolves salts and it quite warm to.

jeezus christ get into reloading...

I like my rifle TOO MUCH to fire corrosive out of it. I would put in the work to properly disassemble it and clean it, but that would get old REAL FAST

Did a lot of reading....used to be a lot of gun cleaners that used to contain Benzene, hopes9 included. After they found out it causes cancer they removed Benzene from the ingredients.

Other cleaners were water based....
