I purchased a box each of FGMM 168 & 175, Hornady Match 168 & 178, Hornady TAP 155, and Black Hills 168 match. I decided to check the bullet runout on all the rounds. The Federal 168, 175, Hornady Match 168, & 178 all had runout that averaged about .005". The Black Hills 168 and the Hornady TAP 155 averaged .008" and .010" respectively. My question is this. With Black Hills reputation for accuracy and consistency why did they have the most inconsistent ammo? And how much will an average of .010" (some as high as .018") affect accuracy? Even the Hornady TAP disappointed me. Also did I maybe just get a couple bad boxes or is this the norm for them?

Sorry there. Years back I did a lot of bench shooting and found the runout was an issue when trying to wring out that extra little bit of accuracy. On most rifles shooting .5moa or larger groups, I was unable to really see much difference after spending big bucks on runout gauges and so on. For ragged hole groups however, everything helps a bit, good luck with what you are trying.
