Glock slide won't hold open after last round.

The problems I've seen with the slide release are with the coil that inserts under the pin; I'm not sure if it's a manufacturing problem and whether in some it's just too short, but I've had it work it's way out on more than one occasion (these have predominantly been with the extended version, though).

Based on the suggestions from others, I would probably say grip, magazines (since you're using non-OEM) and then dead-last - the slide release. The plus side is that it's fairly cheap and easy to replace.

The other point..is yes.. I was using the Korean KCI mags rather than the factory one...

I can almost 99% bet it's your kci mags. Grab your mag and push the follower down and let it come back up and if it doesn't come back up all the way to the top where it should be then that's your problem. Try if a dozen times or so just to be sure cause it might work 3 of 4 times making you believe it is ok.

You should be able to see where the follower is getting hung up and with a little trim trim you should be able to cut/trim the plastic bits that are causing the follower to get hung up. There is a reason the kci mags are cheaper........

Its most likely the shooter. Anyone who's owned a Glock knows the magazine springs are stiff and don't get much easier with use. The KCI mags aren't the same as OEM but they do work.

You are mistaken. Glocks wil drop the slide with an empty mag inserted, no problem.

But having grown up with 1911s I actually did not realize this for the first year of owning a Glock myself.
 
I was going to tell you to check you mag follower until I saw your post that it was a KCI mag.

I had the same problem with a Glock OEM mag but the follower had a piece broken off. Mag still worked 100% but would not hold slide open any more.

A new OEM Glock follower fixed that for $3. As for KCI mags, I have never used one so I cannot comment, but I would stick with Glock mags IMHO.

This is what I have run into with factory Clock mags. Suspect it will be the KCI magazine.
 
I don't have big hands but I have a high grip, and for me it's my damn thumb position, on Glocks, Sigs, even my GI-style 1911.
I modified my grip so that the thumb on my right hand is resting on the thumb knuckle on my left hand.
 
When you removed the frame pins to take-down your Glock for cleaning....did you ensure the spring on the slide release was placed "under" the frame pin that holds the barrel lug when you put it back together?
 
have you ever completely stripped the gun? i seem to recall doing that to mine a few times and you have to make sure the spring for the slide release is above the pin, not below it.

I found that every extended slide release I've installed that the spring is a little too short, to the point where the end of the spring doesn't stay under the pin but ends up behind it. I always remove the spring from the factory one and put it on the extended one, then it sits fine.
