hey guys, ive been toying with the idea of upgrading to a better stock, any of the good ones are bank breakers for someone like me who has too many expensive hobbies as it is, but id like to see if theres a stock i could get my hands on for a r700 30-06, so long action i think? ive checked the ee and surfed google and such, something with a better grip, maybe even pistol grip or something similar, something that would float the barrel as well and, but not required, adjustable cheek rest. what are my choices for a set up like that, that works well, but wont break the bank?

thanks guys ill look in to those and see what i can find and start putting aside my pennies for one. the pistol grip isnt 100% needed but having shot a couple rifles with them i enjoyed shooting with one, but its not a deal breaker.

I've never held one but if I were to build a 'budget' precision rifle, I'd get the Choate Custom Tactical stock. Looks ###y, great reveiws, side sling studs, good modularity for a bipod, and has an alluminum bedding block.
All that I would require extra would be a rear rail for a monopod and a rail adapter for the anschutz rail. Also, a bedding job which is easy enough.

why do the Choate stocks, put the side-sling studs on the right hand side, thus sticking the bolt, into your hip/back... (bear in mind, i haven't used one, but it's how i picture it must work when carrying it in that manner, no?) wouldn't it make more sense for them to be on the left hand side? Or is it optional? Just seems silly to me, to offer a nice recessed stud, but then make the sling placement, right side only.

That chaote is Nice looking for sure. Heavy isn't bad it's not a hunting rifle so i dont mind added weight. I like the look of that Thanks for all the help. This will be a post Christmas gift to myself I think. I've gotta get some hardware pulled out of my leg and I'll be off work for a couple weeks so come Feb I see one of these finding their way to my gun. Thanks again. Also, cheapest place to get one?
