Nagant Carbine version

I was just on the EE and saw a never fired still in cosmoline polish m44 for 495$ and from what I see he has very fair prices on everything els so maybe there's no more polish m44s to be had( no more to import). As a new rifle the price is fair but they are still military surplus.

Laugh2 $150-$200 too much. Still in cosmoline (mummy wrap?) or "still has cosmoline on it!?" There's a big difference there...but not in $'s. I would say a mummy wrap M44 would only realize a few more $'s. There are a tonne of them out there, shop around would be my advise.

Thanks to everyone! The info is top notch! I have heard similar implications about this island and pricing, what with only one gun store in vic they charge whatever they want. just thought i should ask someone more knowledgeable! But I pose yet another question, do the M44/38 have a worse accuracy rating compared to a regular mosin?

My M44 shoots very well.

I can shoot a solid 4-6" group with it at 100 meters with surplus ammo.

Just look for one with a solid bore.

As for being more or less accurate than the Mosin 91/30 I would say no. The difference is really in the condition of the bore and crown with any of these Mosin rifles.

I highly recomend either one.

The only real difference if bores were the same is the short sighting with M44 shorter barrel. I do find it makes a difference @ 100yds, but not a whole lot. With my Polish it groups 4", my stock Izzy 91/30 around 3" and my sniper 91/30 under 2". Those were my best groups from each.
For hunting I'd take the M44.
