Hi

I have decided to buy a Glock but not just any Glock, a Glock 21. This may not seem like a big deal to some but it is for me. The only question, Gen 3 or Gen 4?
Thanks a lot guys.

Gen 3 if you want to save a tiny bit of money and some people don't like the new spring system. Gen 4 has I believe interchangeable back straps to better fit your hand. I think it also has a double recoil spring. Someone that knows more about Glocks can chime in.

I almost bought a G21 gen3 a couple years ago. I kept going back to the store but something about the grip didn't fit right so didn't buy it.
When the G21 gen4 came out I handled one (at the same store) and bought it on the spot. I'm shooting it completely stock except for a set of Trijicon night sights. The stock trigger and reset feels crisper than my G17 gen3 with a Glock (-)connector & NY1 spring.
I have the med back-strap mounted on the G21 and it fits me perfectly. It's the softest shooting .45acp I've shot and it came with 3 mags! My 1911 hasn't been to the range since.

Lucky. I definitely want a G21 but since I already got a CZ Shadow this year and have a 686 on the way the Glock is probably going to have to wait until spring. Don't forget to let us know how you like it.

The "tiny" bit of money saved by buying a brand new Gen 3 Glock 21 is offset by the fact that the Gen 4 comes with a 3rd magazine. The cost difference is a wash, availability in your area will likely be the deciding factor. I'm perfectly happy with my Gen 4 so far, but I can't imagine I'd feel disappointed if instead I had a Gen 3 SF. One downside I have noticed is that Glock 21 holsters seem a tad harder to find, at least locally. One of the things I was looking forward to with owning a Glock was the holster choices, guess to really take advantage of that, I should have stuck with a 17/22. Oh well.

Get the Gen 4. Reversible mag release, RTF frame, extra mag and adjustable backstraps. Has the dual recoil spring and if you want to turn it into a Gen 3, get the RSA adapter for about $12 and drop in a Gen 3 RSA and put on the medium backstrap.

Thanks, that is the kind of info I was hoping for.

Might as well get a Gen 4. There's really no reason not to anymore. Any hiccups associated with the release of the new generation glocks have long been ironed out and were on models other than the 21.

I've got a 21SF, and find the grip on the large size and pretty slippery with sweaty hands. I've also got a G34 gen4, and that thing sticks in my hand. I'd go with the Gen 4.

Ok, just got a G19.
These are my thoughts about Glocks
First, they are not a SIG.
I hate the trigger, everything about it, the feel, the look, everything. I hate the empty space behind the mag, why not fill this from the factory?
I really like the the looks though, boxy but sleek.
Reliability and performance, topshelf.

They're almost identical, however if I had to pick between the two I'd go with Gen 4. That's what I did...had Gen 3 for years, got a Gen 4 and never looked back. Again, they're both great!!!

No, they certainly are not Sigs. Sigs are DA/SA, hammer fired... re: archaic design.
A lot of people complain about the trigger, but I don't understand why. It has an audible and tactile reset, it has a consistent pull, consistent weight, and consistent travel. Very easy to learn imo. I take up the slack, feel the wall, take up the firmer 1/8" of slack, and bang it goes, every time.
I work on malfunction drills, but have never had one irl.

The empty space behind the mag isn't there because they ran out of polymer when they made your gun. It's there for your thumb to tug on the mag to ensure that it is inserted properly, and it's there to help you rip the mag out during a double feed malfunction.

IMO, everything about the g19 is top shelf, and as all glocks function the same, they are all top shelf.

I have small hands but I find the Gen 4 21 more comfortable than the Gen 3 21 SF. I really liked the Gen 4 21 and I would consider buying one but don't want to go down the .45 route so I will stick with the 9mm and .40 Glocks.

Tried a Gen 4 G21 in Vegas last year.
The gun shot inside of 8 inches @25 yards as fast as I could acquire a correct sight picture.
Gun just seemed to naturally line up with the target after each shot. One of the very few times I shot a firearm that seemed to work "right" out of the box.
Muzzle flip was next to nothing (use to a 1911).
Was looking to buy one but ended up with an M&P for my daughter instead.
