Scary incident. Got back to truck after hunting, took out mag to unload, flipped safety and gun went off. Anyone else had that happen with tikka t-3? And no my hand was not on trigger.

I agree with these guys, your trigger doesn't have enough sear engagement. Myself, I keep the magazine full and the chamber empty until I'm prepared to shoot, then after shooting, I top off the mag and carry on with the chamber empty. All the same, adjust your trigger to resolve the problem. If you are unsure how to adjust the trigger, take it to someone who knows how. By the way, kudos for having good muzzle control, thus preventing what might have been a nasty accident

This is the only way to carry a rifle, chamber empty!

Unless you are hunting something that will kill you - an empty chamber is the only way to proceed. If on a stand you can be loaded.

Hard to shoot flushing grouse with a double barrel shotgun if the chambers are not loaded beforehand. :)

Muzzle control is more important than having the chamber empty. If you are in a situation where you can't control the muzzle, then you should unload.

x2, there is no substitute for muzzle control regardless of whether or not the rifle is loaded

To the OP, glad you're OK, and best to have your rifle checked over just to make sure nothing's broken, worn, or loose.

Brand new as of Sept. Adjusted triggers of other rifles with no issues. After talking to a gunsmith, the trigger might have somehow been overlightened. Tikka is supposed to be adjustable 2-4 lbs with the OEM adjust screw.

I tuned all my triggers down as low as they will go, never had that happen. It says in the manual the trigger CANNOT be adjusted below 2lb's with the trigger set screw unless modification was done.

P.S I always walk with a loaded rifle in the field, I always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, and I hunt alone 99% of the time.

So you had previously adjusted the trigger? If that is the case, you likely caused the issue with your tinkering.
