I imagine I could find the answer if I scroll through the first 10 pages of posts here, but would appreciate it if you guys could give me a shortlist for first reloading books. I do shotgun reloading, but was thinking of also getting in to rifle reloading. I thought I would leaf through a book or two before making any reloading equipment purchases.

I have many reloading books but I think the one from LEE is a great beginner resource.

What I found when first getting into reloading was the there is an overload of information, plus I bought and read every book on reloading I could find or buy off of Ebay, where I could get books delivered for cheaper than I could find them locally. I also had a couple guys that had been reloading for years take me under their wings and they were both understanding in my many questions and guided me through the basics of the process.

Since those early days, I have reloaded 10's of thousands of rounds mostly 45acp and 9mm, but also 44-40 win, 38spl, 357mag, 44mag, .223rem, 308win and 12gauge.

Good luck in your reloading experience.

Yes, Lee Modern Reloading is a good one, it gives a thorough discussion and instructions on getting started. Might be 2nd edition now. I have them both and they both have the intro to reloading.

As you can see, no single publication is perfect, I recommend you get at least three, if not more. Reading is the best skill you have when it comes to reloading. The more books and manuals you have, the better equipped you are for the task at hand. Also, the more manuals you have, the more load data you have, meaning once you look up a possible load in each you will discover a trend, or an average for what you are trying to do. Gives you a lot more insight.

Next to reading a lot, find a mentor, or someone that is very familiar with reloading and talk to them often.

What he said.

The ABCs is a great introduction to reloading, IMO the best one. The problem is that it doesn't have much by way of 'recipes'. For that you will need a manual put out by one of the major firms. Lee is good, but so are those from Sierra, Speer, Lyman, Hornady, etc.

Earlier editions of ABCs are just fine and can save some money, but invest in the latest editions of the manuals.
