Wasn't a great year for mule in this area between low numbers of mule deer and a big blizzard that made it tough getting to some places for the last half of the season. But with 2 days left, I decided not to pass up on this guy. The 300 WSM performed flawlessly again. An hour and a half after he was down, I had him winched up the hill, field dressed, and loaded on the cargo hauler. It was one of the heaviest deer I have ever struggled with. Now only 2 more sleeps till white tail season :D. For now i'm going to fire up the smoker.

Very nice muley! Looks plenty heavy in the body.
You must have worked that rig of yours pretty hard in that snow.
What load are you using in your WSM?
Regards, Eagleye.

It was quite heavy. Just got back from the locker plant that processes my meat. Skinned with legs off at knees and head off it weighed in at 187 pounds. No wonder im stiff and sore today! I am just using Nosler Custom ammo with 180 grn ballistic tips. My rifle shoots under 1" with them and the bullets seem to work well on big deer.

I`m surprised you didn`t call for a chevy to pull that ol hunk of junk out of the snow bank. I would have showed up sooner or later.cou: Nice deer, even for a hillbilly.:D

I took it to Outllook Locker. I have been taking my deer there for 23 years. They do a very good job. I will find out tommorow but I believe they charge somewhere around 70 cents a pound for cut and wrap. I will confirm tommorow.
